System Pics 2025

Beautiful piece of art. It looks very much like something from the Coast Salish or Haida peoples. The system looks pretty good too .

I notice in your profile that you list a NAPS555DR. Is that what they’re called now? I suppose it makes sense as the CD555 is no more.

Hi @Adikt, right on both. Artist was born in Prince Rupert, BC, so Salish Coast and he is Haida. Corey Bulpitt. One of my Covid purchases  Piece is called Raven Fin.

I wasn’t familiar with such a style of art until the Grateful Dead did a box set of their Pacific Northwestern tours that had elaborate artwork by Roy Henry Vickers. Here’s views of the top and of one of the ends of the box.

Had no idea the Dead did that. Love the Roy Henry Vickers Gallery. I visit it every time I go to Tofino BC.

@PistolPeter Just had a good listen to the Marten Quintet at Axpona Friday. Luxman was driving them. I really enjoyed the session- very good speakers imo. I hear you re the size= they are deep buggers! I suspect they would work best pulled out into the room a bit, especially with the rear firing radiators. Beautiful package imo. :+1:

Great artwork.

Swapped in the Q10’s for Easter weekend.

Adam1, I’m just two days in, constant running. My thoughts are I’m just about on the cusp regarding room size, at 8 o’clock listening level it sounds really fine. The SN3 definitely has its place thanks to its warmth and easy power. The 50’s presentation is different and I would say more engaging thanks to greater detail and insight. The 50 demands to be listened to.
Initially I thought maybe slightly lean tonally but it’s definitely warming as it gets used. If I had to call it now I would say the SN3 will be in the box. Whether or not I would sell it is a different matter.
I’ve never had the spine tingle with the SN3 like I have already with the 50….
How are you feeling about the comparison?
Reggie.

System update with the wonderful Kroma Atelier Mimi and dedicated stands in place and run in

Hi Reggie, its an interesting one. I have now reverted to my system pre Naim 50 and the SN3 and HCDR are back in place, but here is the rub.

When having the Technics SL1210GR2 directly into either the SN3 or the Nait 50 my wife commented that the system lacked some warmth and was a bit full on. I get what she meant but I was taking that as greater insight and drive, but I put the Rega Aria back into the mix and then everything felt more complete and whole again.

Issue is that with the Nait 50 this would mean using up one of its only two other inputs, so what to do with streaming or CD…

So I’ve put the SN3 back in place and the Nait 50 has for the moment deposed the Technics SU-G700M2 amp, driving the Kef R3 Metas, and it is sounding very fine. I have swapped the turntables round and the Rega RP6 with the new ND7 cart is into the Nait 50 as opposed to my other Technics SL1210GR2.

Both the SN3 and Nait 50 are brilliant amps and I’m having fun trying out the combinations, the Musical Fidelity A1 sounds cracking with the Technics turntable.

Ultimately all the combinations sound good, just slight differences in preference one way or another, so for a final mix of the recipe I have just put my Q10 (recently remastered from mk1 to latest spec by Guru) back on the SN in place of the Guru Q12’s. Those two speakers are much like the SN3 and N50 in very small margins difference in style and I just fancied giving the Q10’s a run out.

The SN3 is definitely a touch warmer sounding than the N50, mind you its got way more miles on the clock and the N50 might be a way off being optimal yet, who knows.

Looks like you have a fair amount of gear to swap around! I feel positively streamlined by comparison.. Things are pretty simple at my end, with just a streaming set up (for now). Good luck :+1:t3:

To be fair you are right, if just looking at digital front ends the warmth side of life wasn’t a factor, purely a vinyl consideration and based on the results so far it’s the components upstream of either Naim amp.

Putting back in the Rega phono stage restored that balance and that’s easier to accommodate with the SN.

The N50 isn’t slumming it, seems to be throughly enjoying it with the RP6/ND7 and the Kef R3 Metas in the cabin and that’s the system I get to let rip a bit more given the isolation.

My plan is to beef up the nDac with a 555ps. I think the N50 will benefit and the Kudos speakers have headroom so I feel the balance would remain good.
I don’t really want to go down the route of separate pre/power so the N50 is a very sweet compromise. Three boxes at the front end is already two too many for my liking but it’s a direction that I chose a while back and need to see it through.
I’m sure the N50 will sing if you’re in your cabin where you can crank it up. Bring it on!
Given more time I’ll add a turntable. Probably a Rega.

This is the big system in sunny Malvern after a heavy night

And a more subdued system in very sunny Saudi Arabia.
