I’d say absolutely fair!! -)
Heresy alert. Finally moved into the new place, and installed a “lifestyle system”. Not a Naim in sight. Totem Tribe on-wall speakers, mounted on custom stiffened and damped wall, matching sub in custom console. NAD M10 V3 streaming amplifier. Sorry, guys.
Hi Winky , nice to see you / hear from you.
Nice to see that you are supporting local manufacturers!
Ian
You are forgiven, since you have Totems
, what sub are you using? I’ve always wondered how the Tribe on-wall speakers would work with a nice TV and sub, I’m sure it’s very nice.
It’s the Totem Tribe Solution. It’s made to go with the speakers. It has an adjustable crossover frequency, and my amp can do clever sub integration, but I’ve not played with that yet.
Did you have the chance to compare your on-wall Tribes with other floorstanders from the Totem lineup? I wonder how they sound in comparison.
I dream that one day I’ll also be able to place my beloved Neat speakers on stands like those. Unfortunately, my current living situation doesn’t allow for it, although the IsoAcoustics ones do a pretty good job.
Finally got the nDAC did a deal on a 555PS as well as he had no boxes, link plugs or cables for either and the PS needs a service.
It’s quite a jump from the DAC in the NDX to the nDAC with XPS2.
How would you describe this jump, given the already substantial price of the NDX?
No. I didn’t do a demo. The space the system was going into doesn’t have room for floor-standers, so I bought a well-regarded system that featured wall-mount, and built the wall to be solid. Pretty happy with it.
Huge, it’s a massive uplift in soundstage and detail.
Ironically, the nDAC was less than what I paid for the NDX. I don’t think the nDAC achieves the values it’s really worth, going by what I’m hearing at the moment.
Melanie, Citiest People. Naim plus Kans and it brings tears to my eyes. I think I’m getting old. ![]()
So, should I aim to swap my DAC-V1 for an nDAC? Even though I’m already completely satisfied with everything?
Not necessarily. The Naim DAC and the DAC-V1 are slightly different products with different applications.
The DAC is just that, a high performance DAC that’s upgradeable with separate dedicated power supplies. The DAC-V1 is also a DAC but one designed to also be a kind of digital pre-amp; just add a power amp and away you go. It’s also designed with a computer source in mind with its asynchronous Audiophileo USB input.
If you already have a good pre-amp and just want a top quality high performance DAC and mostly use s/pdif then the DAC is the best choice, especially if you intend to take advantage of the PS upgrades at some point.
I’m a big Totem fan so that’s why I was so curious. I’ve seen those on catalogues but never at dealers. However I’m glad you are happy with it!
I haven’t heard the V1 but you answered your own question.
Thanks, Richard. I use the V1 as a pure DAC, with my SN3 acting as the preamplifier. Also, as far as I understand, the V1 features a substantial toroidal transformer that ensures complete silence—a quality further enhanced by my two
In which case you may be surprised at what the DAC can bring as it’s certainly a performance upgrade over the already very capable DAC-V1.
