What preamp and source was playing into the NC250? Was it burned in? It’s a tremendous amplifier that changes immensely based on what’s in front of it.
Nsc222. It was used on all the power amps. It is well run in.
A bare 222 won’t show off what an NC250 can do.
Maybe when he comes to pick the Rega up, i’ll get him to drop off the nap 250?
The same is true of a bare 332. I have a 332/333 and NVC TT, all with power supplies and my 250 now sounds might fine.
You’d be best off with 500DR used. Will sound great with 252 Supercap DR.

A 500dr was on my list, but finding one S/H at the right price is/was proving a challenge. But I’m in no immediate rush, ill take a look in a few places.

Best thing is to email dealers. They may have them off the books. I got a nice 552DR from DNA audio that way for £11k 2017 immaculate. It wasn’t advertised, the dealer just had it. My 500DR was crazy low price, included powerline even though originally 2002. DR’d 2017 £6100.
I’ve seen a couple of used examples out there.
All I can say is the 500DR is one of the best Naim items ever!
The 555PSDR is also an amazing power supply. As you well know.

I have already started the process to see how much a 500dr is likely to cost, if there are any out there. So far prices are 2 to 2.5 times what you paid, but ill keep going.

I think the £10k to £12k mark for 2017 would be reasonable. When I bought mine I don’t know what was going on but the prices were crazy low. And now they are not like that at all.
Have seen 2 x 350s for £9k but it’s not as good as a 500DR on classsic gear.
The 500DR is jaw dropping. When I had my 52 and powered it up it was such a Wow! moment and left my 135s for dust.
Don’t get me wrong the 135s were superb amps. But 500DR is in a different league and worked brilliantly with 52, Supercap 2.
I have heard 252 Supercap DR with 500DR and it is a superb combination.
552DR, of course it’s better, but the 252 or 52 isn’t weak with a 500DR at all.

There’s an absolutely mint 500DR with a dealer in Cambridge. I bought it from them as a barely used demonstrator and ran it for 18 flawless months before moving across wholesale to Burmester. It’s a belter of an example with pristine casework and every little extra they come with from the factory….

Awaiting XLRs so only listened via headphones so far but all works fine. Can’t imagine it will better the NDS/52 but I do know that it won’t sound rubbish 
.
Feels a bit weird not having Naim but in a nice way. Much like when I sold my motorbike last year and replaced it with an MX5. I’ve left the door open on an upgrade next year if my hearing improves. It’s between a Selekt dual Org vs an NSC222/300.
Meanwhile, the jury is out so far.
