Morgana wins out by now. But post-cryo treatment…I will reevaluate and reassess.
Oh and I forgot to answer you Roon Titan question. I moved to it from a Nucleus + RevA with 32GB of RAM and an upgraded Samsung 980 Pro M.2 boot drive.
I am pleased with the uplift in SQ which is subtle…and the vastly more snappy interface (which is very obvious). The sound took on a more open, dynamic, and grainless nature for both my NDX 2 and Lumin A1 (tube system). I moved to 64GB of top-of-line Apacer wide-temp Industrial RAM and treated the interior of the Titan chassis with 3M AB7000HF series EMI/RFI absorber pretty extensively. Each of those changes brought an improvement in dynamics, refinement, tonal insight, and increasingly grainless presentation. I also took advantage of the very generous trade-in offer they gave existing Nucleus owners.
I had been using a Plixir Elite BDC 19v/4a with the N+ and it brings the same improvements to the Titan over the std wall wart. I will say that baseline performance with the wall wart was much better on Titan.
So, is it for everybody? I’m sure it’s not. Was it the best move for me? Absolutely.
Next step is an Antipodes Oladra, Taiko Extreme/Olympus, etc.
Some people are simply guided by their ears.
It’s not TP, but another company.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have an old Nucleus and since mice is chirping (think coil whining), I am looking into the new Nucleus Titan. Quite pricey though. I’ve heard about the EMI/RFI absorbers, but have never heard of the RAM you have mentioned. Will look into it. I have SotM SPS-500 PS for my Nucleus, and pretty happy with it, it even matches green lights of Naim gears, but I’m pretty sure that Plixir Elite BDC is better performer. I heard good things about Antipodes Oladra, but it costs as much as ND555 with a 555 PS.
I am pretty sure my new DIN-XLR cable has not shifted my system towards more Hi-Fi side. I have Focal Kantas that are Hi-Fi enough for me, and I would have noticed right away if the cable has affected that way. I refrain from using anything silver for the same reason.
I would be very cautious about using a non naim cable for din xlr duties
I tried a few but while they improved on hi-fi areas, they seemed to soften to sound, resulting in reduced engagement.
Replaced it with a superlumina and everything was back the way it was designed
The bite/tension/ clarity is supposed to be there !
I could easily go back to the DIN/XLR supplied by Naim in the box, it has a specific electrical spec, which isn’t random at all, and in hindsight could easily have avoided the expense of upgrading the cables, and bought a Naim Fraim instead. Or a Linn LP12.
I think all of the people are guided by their ears, no-one sits on the couch with an oscilloscope. But criteria for some seem to be variable in function of the piece of equipment. We don’t mess with amp or speakers, but can have a feeling that cables allow us for a degree of personal intervention. My point was that Naim is loved and trusted but sometimes as far as cabling is concerned, trust in Naim engineers and their ears and choices may become secondary. That’s all.
Oh I strenuously disagree with this. There’s a huge trend among, especially young, audiophiles to rely exclusively on electrical measurements when assessing audio gear, with the assumption that whatever is lowest in distortion is objectively correct and that no further gains can be realized. They are alsoee very fond of saying things like “listening is misleading” and “don’t trust your ears”.
I’ve often checked the website you mentioned before its disappearance. I’ve known places and opinions like the ones there for a long time. They’re the exact same and opposite of conspiracy and flat Earth ones. A bunch of zealots and strenuous followers dedicated to a cult - that of measurements only, in this case - and complacently gathering among themselves in the conviction of being the new frontier of knowledgeability vs the irrationality of the sheer listening pleasure.
There will always be those who lock themselves into a cilice or a chastity belt in the quest for sanity.
Anyway, you didn’t mention with which of my points you disagreed so heartedly, so I assume it’s my first sentence.
I am avoiding anything silver after I got my focal speakers. It sounded right after getting rid of all silver or silver plated cables out of my system.
Do you think Super lumina would still work better in this case? I’ve always wanted to try one.
Superlumina is a great cable. I highly recommend them
See if you can borrow one and try it. I’d be intrested to see how it compares to the Koltura. Just allow for the price difference.
If you believe that silver plating is the problem, you might want to avoid Super Lumina, which uses silver plating on the wires and banana plugs.
Unfortunately, there is no dealer in my country who stock Naim cables anymore. I need to order one if I want to try. BTW I have Hi-Line for source IC. I have TP Kolturas for DIN-XLR.
That is exactly what I have in mind. Thanks for reminding me. Beryllium tweeters seem to hate silver.
The “somewhere else” is pictured in your first post!
If it were me i’d not want to try expensive cables without a trial. And, if you are happy, stick with the ones you have got and enjoy the music.
Right, that was in the picture. Lol. Thanks for your honest advice.
I wonder if the Teddy Pardo Din 5 interconnects are any good? They are very reasonably priced.
I once tried a Tellurium Q Silver Diamond Din 5. It was in the same price range as a Hiline. When I went back to the regular Naim din cable, the music was just as good. I now hesitate to try alternatives.
The price of the TP cables is attractive no doubt. Id like to see a bit more detail about the cable materials etc. I lament the demise of WH if only for their cables, with Morganna being a favourite of mine. Even second hand, they appear to hold their price well. I certainly have no reason to change them in my main system.
