Thanks for the films Rob

What a sad end for Rob Reiner, the man who made my favourite comedy of all time - This Is Spinal Tap. He came very close with The Princess Bride too. Other great films included When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men. Thanks for the films and the mockumentary

Well said.

I can’t think of anyone else who could have played Marti DiBergi so brilliantly. A film I missed on release but never tire of re-watching.

Absolutely shocking and horrendous, especially for a film-maker who brought so much joy and laughter into the world.

He will be immortal though thanks to his many utterly superb films and that is a little comfort.

Also, his acting chops. The “helpfull friend” in Sleepless in Seattle. The bewildered, outraged father in “The Wolf of Wall Street”.

My most watched of his films is “The American President”, one of Hollywood’s best “if only” movies, especially in view of, well… no politics, it’s the NAIM Forum.

Agreed. His Marty DiBergi was a perfect piss-take of Martin Scorsese in The Last Waltz

So so sad. I was reading something that really made me pause, having not really put the thread together; he’s made arguably the best film across five different genres:

Mockumentary: Spinal Tap

Courtroom drama: Few Good Men

Coming of age drama: Stand by me

Fantasy / adventure: Princess Bride

Rom-com: When Harry Met Sally

Wow. RIP Rob. There will most likely never be another one like you.

Awful news. Loved his films - and not forgetting the Sure Thing with John Cusack.

I still vividly remember the first time I watched This is Spinal Tap. My GF and had been to a party at a friend’s house in, I think, Rhode Island in May of '85 and we’d stayed over. The next day, feeling very much the worse for wear, we turned on the TV only to see this documentary from “Marty Di Bergi” about a heavy metal band. It was simply hilarious, so much so that it quickly dawned on us that it had to be a spoof. Sure enough, it was “David St. Hubbins”, “Nigel Tufnel”, “Derek Smalls” et al.. Utterly brilliant.

p.s. Must not forget the inimitable “Ian Faith” - “The Boston gig has been cancelled… I wouldn’t worry about it though, it’s not a big college town…”

“Choked on vomit. They’re not really sure whose vomit it was.” Or something like that. Still gets me every time. I’m smiling from ear to ear just typing it.

Just so. “I’m a film maker. I make a lot of commercials. That little dog that chases the covered wagon under the sink? That was one of mine”. Genius

“My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father…. prepare to die!”

Really sad that this had to happen to him. A shining light in cinema and in real life.

I’ve been trying to locate a garden seed organiser for my wife but shopping on line you have to check the dimensions carefully and all of them are really small in reality.

I’m just visualising Stone Henge descending onto the stage…..

I’ll always remember him as “Meathead”.

I feel sad for his other children.
