Probably the most memorable gig I’ve been to was Kraftwerk at the Velodrome as part of the Manchester International Festival in 2009.
Sound quality was surprisingly good for a venue with a curved roof and all manner of surfaces at odd angles. During the Tour de France number all the lights came on around the track and the British Cycling development squad did laps. Many of those riderswent on to win medals at Rio. The choice of venue suddenly made perfect sense and contributed to an unforgettable evening.
Their album ‘Live at the Marquee’ captures a lot of what they wereat their peak. The sound quality on the original LP was also phenomenal. Sadly that never made it to CD.

The album is not on Tidal, so I assumed it was not released on CD. I will certainly look to find a digital copy if it’s still available.
Lou Reed at the Coogee Hotel in the late 80s, small venue and a small audience. Great show seen him on a few occasions this was best though.
Bowie’s Stage Tour at the SCG
Midnight Oil at the Sydney Entertainment Centre early 80’s. They’d just released 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. Wonderful live.
Now that requires more information, I assume the wonderful Adrian Belew was playing lead guitar for Bowie.
But Lou Reed, was Robert Quine still with him on guitar or was it just Lou (again assuming he had with him Fernando Saunders on bass and Fred Maher on drums).
Tbh I have no idea, seen Bowie 3 times, Stage, Serious Moonlight and Glass Spiders. I didn’t take a huge interest who was in the band.
Lou show was around the time New Sensations although I’ve seen him probably 3 or times after that. What made the Coogee gig so good was a small venue and only a couple hundred punters. I can recall it was only a 4 piece band (including him).

Likewise I saw Bowie three times, 1976 tour, Serious Moonlight and Glass Spider tours. Oh yes and I saw him with Tin Machine.
I was staying with some friends in Milton Keynes in 1983 when Bowie played the MK Bowl. Even inside their home we could hear every word. Very annoying it was. Lol. I’m sure we were a mile or two away. The only tour of his I would like to have seen would have been Ziggy but I was too young.

I saw Bowie and the Spiders, with guest appearance by Lou Reed, at the Royal Festival Hall in 1972. It was a transcendental experience. I also saw him at Earls Court in 1973 on the Aladdin Sane tour , when even this clueless 17-year-old knew the sound was atrocious.
And the first time was in Bromley Library Gardens in September 1969. He was the compere for the all-day folk festival, and played a solo acoustic set. It was mostly lost on 14-year-old me, but I loved what I later found out was Space Oddity.
I’ve been lucky enough to have seen many of the major artists since the late ‘70s, but the one gig that totally blew me away was It Bites at the Bier Keller in Bristol in 1986 (I think). They were promoting the Once Around the World album. It was a relatively small venue but the band were loud, on top form and blew the roof off, metaphorically speaking, of course!

Did you see him at the Three Tuns in Beckenham? He performed there every Sunday as he and Angie ran Beckenham Arts Lab. He did more mime and theatrical stuff than music. I went there pretty much every week - very small venue and they were very friendly to a young hippie.
Snap! I know the Three Tuns well, but was too young to see Bowie there. However, Harvey Sklair, my art teacher (at Langley Park) was part of that crowd.
You can’t have Blondie at Deeside. That’s the gig I didn’t get to because we had two tickets and had to draw names from a hat.
What happened that you missed Earls Court in 1978?
Umm good question, you may remember back in 1978 at that time you still had to send away for tickets and I had to arrange transport to London from the Kent coast.
I had jacked in my paper round and started college so money was a bit thin on the ground. I do recall seeing Rory Gallagher at Canterbury that year and probably The Enid playing in Folkestone. Oh yes and on 1st May 1978 there was Steve Hillage in Folkestone.
Despite being the No. 1 Bowie fan I had gone a bit lukewarm on him in 1978. I remember seeing a clip on The Old Grey Whistle Test of him on the Stage tour with Adrian Belew in an Hawaiian shirt and thinking who is that guy.
There was a big hint last year we might see the David Hemmings film of the Earls Court show but that didn’t happen.
Yep I remember having to send away for tickets. I was a mad Bowie fan at the time also.
Saw StationToStation in 1976 my first ever gig. Earls Court 1978 another cracker. Then Serious Moonlight. To be honest it was ok but couldn’t really get over the blonde quiff hairdo and it was a bit too slick.
Glass Spider was pretty dire in comparison. However I never gave up hope and saw him many subsequent times including Tin Machine & Meltdown where he played Low! Also once at Hammersmith Apollo where he played Bewlay Brothers. First and last time I ever heard him play that one.
