The Best instantly recognisable intro

Except on the original (studio) version, that guitar riff doesn’t occur until 1:36 into the track!

You could try telling that to the audience on the Live version I posted, but I doubt they’d hear you!

Besides all the great suggestions above: 7 Nation Army

Played this again last night, and what I consider to be the intro actually lasts well over 3 minutes! You might argue that it doesn’t really count as an intro, but for me, the way it gradually builds, before letting loose, is one of the most memorable intros.

The Breeders - Cannonball

For any F1 fan it surely must be Fleetwood Mac’s ‘The Chain’? Like many of the above, recognisable from the first chord.

The question is, does it need to be recognisable AND nameable? Some of the suggestions above would fall down on the second element (assuming this was in the general public and not just Hifi musos).

I’d pick two ‘leaders’ so far - Smoke on the Water and Beethoven’s Fifth.

Vivaldi 4 seasons - Spring !!

Possibly depends on age? How many TV viewers can name the music used in adverts? Quote - “You know, that Hovis music.” Sometimes even Shazam is not a lot of help.
Just to throw a couple more into the pot, Booker T - Green Onions. Then very generational Del Shannon and Runaway?

For me at least.

For a jazz fan the opening bars of Ellington playing ‘A Train’.

Actually it’s a minor chord, in fact Gm13.

How about ‘Smoke on the Water’? Or even ‘Burn’?
