Happy with ‘Howies.co.uk’ products… practically live in their base layers this time of year.

It definitely cleans the patio well but we find all the removed junk just ends up a sodden mess at the edges due to the amount of water used. Takes an age to dry out so it can be cleared away. Maybe cleaning it more often is the key.

Surely can’t be as satisfying as the usual power spray attachment

Thanks, the base layers look pretty nice. Ordered some t-shirts and running pants (for when I’ve recoverd from ACL surgery )

Any tips for both stylish and casual merino wool sweaters?

For reasonable priced stuff have a look at Arket

Try M&S or Charles Tyrwhitt, both have a good selection of styles

I’ve had a merino jumper from them a few yrs ago, it was kind of my uniform for years. Never washed, always good

They are surprisingly effective given that the power for the spinning head comes only from the water pressure of the two nozzles inside it. Certainly far quicker that a regular jet on decking.
I have one only because it was a freebie with the washer. I don’t have any decking so I never use it. I lend it to my neighbour occasionally. The first time, he gave it a quick try on my front gate for some reason. Years later the bloody swirl marks it left are still visible.

What is the best CD jewel case that can be purchased online in tens or more?

Sadly I’m not good at cleaning the patio frequently, most of it is slate, and I inadvertently left some bags of coal on it and they’ve leached some rust like substance onto the slate - anyone have any ideas for removing rust from slate???

Well, the best merino vests I’ve found are Icebreaker.

Sweaters are a different matter, as we’re now talking about fashion too.

If you’re sure it’s rust, it can be tricky to shift, but oxalic acid does it. Often sold as wood bleach. You would probably need to apply it repeatedly for a while to have any chance of shifting it.

John Smedley knitwear is special.

I wear icebreaker stuff for sporting activities and are hard to beat.

I’ve become a huge fan of Skechers the most comfortable walking shoe I’ve owned.

With Christmas getting closer, some of you might be thinking of buying some small led lights. These could be for indoor/outdoor use. If outdoor, you will definitely want the brightest available, as they do surprisingly lose their impact from a distance.

Well I’ve done all the hard work for you. Noma brand produce the brightest, sparkliest throughout the ranges on offer. It’s not just the intensity of the led, it’s the design of the clear cap. If you want something particularly classy and mesmerising, go for the ‘Noma Stardust 2000 lights set’. I know there’s some infamously tight people here, but don’t skimp and go for the 960 set. 2,000 leds will go around a small 5ft tree and look stunning outside.

Happy Christmas everyone and don’t forget to tip the hard working restaurant staff, tight ones!

I’m not sure if it is rust to be honest but that was the best description. Presumably all manner of minerals in certain types of coal.

It probably is rust which will have been produced by the oxidation of pyrite in the coal. Pyrite (FeS2) is a common minor constituent of coals. Not sure how best to remove the rust (a combination of iron oxides), but I would try scrubbing with a weak acid. I would try vinegar first, but doubt that will be effective. Not sure if any of the patio cleaning products on the market would work?

Thanks, that sounds the likely explanation.

Not an immediate job to try as I have quite a few things to tidy up on there first, but good idea about trying some vinegar, along with ChrisSU’s oxalic acid suggestion above.
