We have induction hobs, but no ventilation other than windows behind and bifold doors opposite the cooker that open to the courtyard. It’s a 90 sq.m open plan kitchen/dining/living and works very well, the kitchen is at one end. I’m sure you will be delighted with your result. I’ve sometimes thought about a side vented system (going through the ceiling and roof isn’t an option due to joists) but we don’t seem to need it.
I love open plan and we’ve got an induction with an over head fan. Don’t mind the smell of cooking as it’s usually me cooking, this way you’re still part of the conversation. We have a walk in pantry with a sink the fridge and all those appliances.
Agree. I wouldn’t overthink it. If the smells are occasionally overpowering or smokey from e.g. doing steak, back door open and ceiling extractor on for a few minutes is enough. Other than that the ceiling extractor is barely used. Most cooking smells are nice imo and quickly dissipate anyway. Btw, we have a Neff recirculating g ceiling extractor which does the job. Even better if you can extract externally via a duct.
This is ours which we put in about 10 years ago. We couldn’t go flush with the ceiling due to floor depth but it’s boxed in and looks neat.
Yes.
We opted to keep kitchen separate when we had a sort out a few years back.
My first flat was all open plan for kitchen, dining, living room. There are plenty of lessons learned and reasons why I kept it separate now! Noise, smell, airborne oil/grease particles etc.
The vented induction hob works very well but is noisy on max power which is absolutely not a surprise. Personally, on balance, I miss gas hob as the induction does 90% of things very well but not much good for flambé for example and even sauté is a little tricky if you want to lift/shake the pan a little, as the moment you lift the pan off the surface you lose the heat, unlike if working over a burner.
But three years on, with right cleaning routine, the induction hob remains spotless, which is nice.
I’ve seen combi ones since and I think that’s what I’d go for now.
Most flats seem that way , I may downsize to a flat next year.
Appealing as root canal work without anaesthesia
@Pete_the_painter @Mike_S @thebadyogi @Jamiewednesday thanks for your comments and advice
Edit. 4 1/2 years accordimg to my wife!
Have you had the kitchen cabinets installed directly over the vinyl? We did that and the kitchen installer got very grumpy about it!
No grumpy response here the kitchen guys like most professionals think it gives you a better finish. The only issue is if you wanted to replace the vinyl but fortunately for me that’ll be someone else’s problem.
Oh dear. For why?
Yes, that was the discussion I had with him!
It is a very remote and lovely village, but there are no buses and if you become carless , it is a nightmare .
I need two knee and two cataract replacements , and being prudent I am thinking that a move nearer shops may be a better thing. I am single and have nobody to rely on - but myself . I also have a neighbour who is dependent on me , and I think he has dementia , it can only get worse
It will be the biggest mistake of my life to move from the village and the second biggest to remain here. It may be wise to move somewhere with Deliveroo
The house and garden are becoming too big and a flat with a balcony may be a good thing .
Thanks for asking
My mother did similar a couple of years back. After my Dad died she sold their house in a rural French village and moved into the burbs of Bezier, convenience, shops, healthcare and the like now much closer to her door. She has no regrets whatsoever. Made sure she bought another house though, not an apartment.
We have clueless bureaucrats in Canada too
Shocking story, it was the lead item in the news here last night, it was run with the following warning “warning some viewers may find this footage disturbing”
Both our PM and the opposition leader have condemned the actions and called the Canadian ambassador to a meeting this morning they’ve also called the action un- Australian. There’s talk of breaking ties and imposing trade sanctions on all Canadian goods. Apparently the Canadian government have responded and issued a statement “ the government realised the cultural importance of Vegimate to Australians and will review the situation”
I’ve already tipped my bottles of Canadian Club down the sink and destroyed any Celine Dion records. What makes us more upset is they allow the import of the inferior Marmite.
Hahahaha . Your reply made me laugh. It’s a ridiculous situation.
You use Naim Audio to play Celine Dion …
PS I also would recommend pouring the Canada Dry down the sink as well
It will be a flat or a ground floor maisonette. I want either a balcony or a patio area for my plants
No I’m not a fan of Mrs Dion at all.
