The Grand Cafe

…as usual Pete, you’re way ahead of me!

It’s only time which is relative apparently. Hope your enjoying your Thursday afternoon. Must be starting to warm up in your part of the world. God I miss travelling.

Nope, grey wet and no sun.

I woke to the same conditions but it’s not that cold, autumn seems quite mild so far. :crossed_fingers:

We’ve had cold nights this week, down to just below 7 degrees C. Should mild up from today though. Pools too cold for swimming.

How’s the 525 going, big improvement or incremental.

Gosh, yes the 252 is really quite a big improvement over the SN2/HiCap even with using the SN2 as the power amp. It certainly shows how much the pre-amp brings to the party. It has what you expect in more detail, clarity and soundstage, but it’s the weight and scale of the presentation that really puts it in a different league. I suspect that with the 250 it will be quite the system.

You will be impressed Mike for sure - a great combination

I’m listening to some heavy prog rock from Riverside at the moment and the scale and bass is immense and all the slight congestion with the SN2 is gone. I think it just needs the 250 to tighten it up a bit more and lift the very top end a bit (cymbals feel a bit recessed?).

Yep

I reckon Pete should have NDX2/252/SCDR/250DR and keep his current speakers - wonder if he will bite

I think you are right.

Do you think the SN2 as a power amp is holding some resolution and the extreme ends of the frequencies back a bit @Bevo? It sounds wonderful, but the sense is there is more to have.

Yep I agree - the SN2 will be muffling the sound a bit at the extremes . You wait until you get the 250DR you will be amazed

Having said that , I have the luxury of living in 2 locations

In my secondary system ( well sort of secondary ) I have built a system around the SN3/HICAPDR combination and it’s fantastic, Salisbury certainly got it right with the SN3 for sure, IMO a bargain

Mike, I am loving the 282 pre-amp with my SN2.

Of course in discussion with the dealer I work with he mentioned that I would experience a lift in performance with a 250 DR. So I can hardly wait to hear your findings when your new power arrives.

I should add that my SN2 won’t be going anywhere, it’s a fabulous integrated amp.

He always bites but the cost is hard to justify. The 32k is a huge jump and unlike other upgrades that were always around 10k it’d awful hard to hide from Mrs Pete.

I might just have to bark for a little while longer.

Forgot to add that was for the 282 not the 525. That’d add another 5ks.

More, it needs the SC. But keeping an eye out for second-hand is a good option. I only managed the 252 that way.

With no news on a 272 replacement I feel I might have gone down the wrong path. Think Naim have let those that did down.

2022 probably the year new products announced , still hope for the 372 Pete

Surely when they launched the 272 there was a vision for further enhancements down the track as technology improved.

And pushing that theory is the fact a lot of people don’t want loads of boxes anymore , so one would think they would tap into that in some way ala 372
