The Grand Cafe

Sorry for you guys in the north (although with the summer you’ve just had you mightn’t be that disappointed) but it’s the first day of spring. Oddly Aussies go of the meteorological calendar rather than the astronomical that’s used in the UK and America.

@Bevo had a great meal at MyBella Asian (and a few too many drinks) in Norwest Business Park last night. The chief is ex Mr Wongs, reminded of what Blue Ginger use to be like in the early days.

Good one Pete

I really miss Blue Ginger.

I was out with older brother in Balmain last night (he first came to Balmain from NZ in early 70’s and drove cabs)

It’s pretty depressing these days, we both remember it when it was humming - can fire a cannon down Darling St these nights and no one to hit :weary:

Off to “Shaggy Cow” restaurant in Mittagong for lunch shortly

Always great - new owner ( the chef ) first week of taking over , hopefully just as good front of house which makes a huge difference - I know the food will be great

Enjoy yourself we’ve just had a quick bite and packing the car for the 3 and 1/2 hour trip home. Hate driving the last part (The Buckets Way) in the dark the road is poor and there’s always the chance of hitting a cow or wildlife.

Shaggy Cow was pretty good - food excellent

My fear came good though - my friend Mark that owned it previously ( use to own Watermark in Balmoral Beach Sydney plus others) is a seasoned front of house personality
and it was missing today

So important

Hopefully comes good

We had home made Cambodian from a food truck 20ks out of town. Fantastic and cheap.

For reasons which I forget I receive the newletter from StereoNET from down under. The latest links to their review of the new mission 770. They rather like it.
Do you dare read it @Pete_the_painter now that you’ve opted for the Neats?

No won’t read it, I’ve already read a few reviews most are positive but now the orders placed I’ll keep my head in the sand and look no further.

Don’t bother mate I’ve read it and it’s not glowing at all if reading between the lines

I’ve read a few reviews and I don’t think they’ve been negative at all. Think some might indicate they suit a particular type of music better than others but that’s probably true of most speakers.

Finally our plans are now ready to be officially lodged on the local councils website, of course after the council receive their payment and bonds.

I guess the fun really starts now Pete

Any rumours on what the Council is like to deal with

Difficult from what I’ve heard they carry on about “heritage” without any real consistency. I don’t mind a bit of a scrap so I won’t roll over.

Yes agree - just a few snippets from this review:

  • overall a wonderful enjoyable thing
  • if listen closely can hear some things wrong or at least not quite right
  • heard better speakers at this price range for imaging and bass extension
  • doesn’t have the best treble at the price - that award goes to the Neat Majistra’s :+1:

As you say some will love it and some won’t

You tend to read what you want to see between the lines.

True, I take most reviews with a grain of salt. Think you have to hear something to really make a call.

Yep bit of a weird review - seemed to contradict himself from time to time

Speakers are personal so I take reviews with a grain of salt

If we went by reviews alone we would all have Tablette 10s. :sunglasses:
