Funny how one remembers moments from one’s childhood

Liz and Phil came through our NZ hometown in 1953, I was 3, I remember seeing them crossing the railway tracks in a big black limo

Then I think it was 3 years later they were back at Lancaster Park Christchurch and all us kids were bused up to wave our flags

Never saw them and never really wanted to, I did have enormous respect for her but I am a republican (not to be confused by the American political party) at heart.
