The Grand Cafe

Looks tasty Pete. Outdoor grilling will have to wait up here in the Nordics, but it’s a glorious winter Saturday

Sunday already in the Nordics? That Brexit must have moved us further from the European mainland than I had realised!

That’s kind of you, but the other grunts would disagree. One night it rained really hard and our bridge footings were flooded - as were others on this stretch. All the available pumps were used on the other ones, so my fellow grunts settled back to a day of not working. I found a length of 50mm diameter flexible piping, and a milk bottle, filled the hose with water and siphoned the water off (amidst cries of “It’ll never work, you fool”. In a surprisingly short time, the water was gone. I was not voted Most Popular Member Of The Team.

Bloody typical!!
I think a lot of people are just insecure. That’s the only thing I can ever think of to explain that kind of attitude or behavior.

Apparently got a bit wrong, correcting

Was close to being rescued at the Ocean surf beach today. Trying to live younger than I am it seems. Conditions were a bit wild, but the beach was patrolled.

Good to see you survived, it’s easy to underestimate the oceans power. Rips are a huge problem especially for foreign tourists here. 20 odd people were rescued at once the other day all caught in a rip. They were lucky there was a life surfing event up the other end of the beach.

I chatted with one of the life savers when I left and she said that she was watching me and had called over the RIB (which was on a training run) when I had managed to get back in after getting pulled out by a flash rip.

Those Life Savers do a great job, many people owe their lives to them and most are volunteers (well here anyway).

Thankfully your misadventure had a happy ending.

This guy makes us all look like underachievers.

Yes, all volunteers here, I did thank her for watching out for me. When we stayed in the Sunshine Coast they have professional (paid) surf patrols at frequent intervals along the entire coastal beaches near all the towns.

Most beaches have a number of paid staff (local council) but the bulk of Life Savers are still volunteers.

Good day to stay at home listen to some music or watch a bit of tv it’s 42c outside.

Just enjoying a Malibu with pineapple/mint on ice. Bet that damn concrete has set.

That’s toasty, we nudged about 27c I think.

27c is very comfortable imo, 42 is just a bit too much. It is cooling down it’s only 36 now.
