We probably all hone in on what we want to hear but what exactly are referring to that the 300DR possesses that its illustrious next level up doesn’t?

300DR v 500DR

I had started this topic on the old forum, so I hope there’s no objection to my resurrecting it here. My dealer will have available a brand new 500DR in the Spring, and his trade-in offer on my 300DR has captured my interest. I’d be grateful to hear from any forum members who’ve either made the move themselves, or have compared the two on home demo. Needless to say, the opinion of many folks was that it was inevitable that I’d opt for the 500DR, but the home demo won’t happen until April, so …

…but in summary, some prefer the sound (sweeter - not as heavy - fast - more classic “Naim” (whatever that is to people’s ears)) and when you combine that with an amp that is half the price and 30% smaller…it ticks a lot of people’s boxes more than the 500.

I have the 500 - but had the 300 - the 500 does give more “HiFi” - so more bass, more air, more headroom, bigger soundstage (you know…all those awful Hi-Fi terms ) but it does possibly lose a bit of speed and sweetness in doing so. Do I think the 500 is better? …for me, yes…but I can understand those that don’t.
