Demo day Friday for the new releases could be tempted by the 250, 100W p/c the Petite 30’s could dine out on that
Hi
You must use a specific cable that you buy separately from Naim for £259 with Ref. No. 00-010-0250 which is a Din to XLR with the correct polarities to connect the Din in the 272 to the new 250.
Now it has been run in, it sounds much better than the 250 DR.
I have to my NDS and would heartily recommend it…but at second hand prices so semi sensible option. Cheaper than upgrading to ND555 at least until a few more appear on the second hand market and is still transferable once I do upgrade
Tee hee
No biggie, it’s not like have to suffer with a 202 preamp in my main system.
In what ways - DR to NC is something I am interested in. Thanks.
That sucks. I was going to visit this store in Scottsdale next month.
I heard the Selekt DSM Katalyst and thought it excellent for all the digital sources. I’ve no doubt the Organik plus the new power supply is better. Nearly bought one until I listened to my Rega P8/Aria through the analogue input but unfortunately it seemed to ‘sterilise’ the whole sound and was far worse than my XS3. I note in the What Hifi review of the latest top model it also notes that the analogue input is a bit lacking compared to the sound of the streamer itself. Maybe it works ok with an LP12/Urika2 and Linn Exact?
Yeah, they invested significant $$ into a Naim Focal showroom and it wasn’t a success, they just don’t sell here. And apparently the support from Focal was not good. Not sure of the details. But his sales figures for Linn were pretty staggering. It’s a nice showroom with some high dollar kit so still worth the time if you have an interest. But yeah, I’d like to hear the new Naim kit.
I have a hard time at dealer demos. The rooms are perfect for sonics and the kit set up ideally and it sounds really good but I admit most kit I demo at the dealer sounds clinical to me. I can never tell if I like something until I get it home and listen to it. I do love the Linn concept of one box and upgrading modules. The Selekt DSM with Organik dac upgrade and analogue stereo out module would probably sound pretty good. I may do a home demo with my 250DR out of curiosity.
I had a s/h Klimax DSM/2 (later with Organik upgrade) and while I liked it at first after 7 months I had enough for much the same reasons you give. Basically it is a Linux computer and just as analog are dependent on the implementation digital is also dependent on the software architecture used on top of the hardware implementation.
At least they don’t waste the buyers money on those little ridiculous color-LCD:s on the front panel
The distributor’s service in Canada and the US leaves a lot to be desired. Every experience I’ve had with the company has been challenging.
Must try harder youre repeating the same joke
I thought it might just have been the digital conversion of the analogue signal. I realise the Naim Uniti range do the same but note that on the 222, the analogue signal remains analogue throughout.
The New 250 is sounding spectacular with my 252/SC…
I’m using some 4pin to XLR Designacables at the moment. I assume you’re using the Naim cables? They aren’t out here in the USA.
Any reputable reviews of the new gear popping up yet?
No will be interesting though. My review is excellent 2 weeks in but as a helpful soul will no doubt point out this is blatant ownership bias .
This is exactly the same position as me. Current 272 looking to replace without addition boxes or forced to replace power supply and amp.
I have had the new classic set up now for 2 weeks and the vocals compared to the 272/ 300dr / XPS I had set up before is a marked improvement. I appreciate the caparison with regard to multi box system with larger price points, but my view has always been diminishing returns for large investments, as with many things and products, I have a built in limiter on what I think is a sensible price ! Each to their own on that one, which is what makes it interesting!
Very nice set up and system and if the 250 can drive those B&W well, the 250 can drive anything
