You mean AA? Glad to see another āalumniā, me too, thoā only spent a short stint there in 93-95
No, no, Ernst & Whinney (85-89). AA merged / took over Binder Hamlin didnāt they? Or did you mean Arthur Young? But they became part of the formation of EY in about 1990 I think
Ernst & Whinney and Arthur Young merged in September 1989. My wife started with Ernst & Whinney in 1986 but only stayed a year before joining the Audit Commission, where I was working, and swapping from ACA to CIPFA. She always called Ernst & Whinney Ernst & Squinny, given she grew up near Portsmouth.
My room is 3m x 4m with speakers firing over the 3m width. Never had a problem with it in the past 12 years
oops, sorry my bad. That must be well before my time then. It was Arthur Andersen already when I joined as a fresh grad in 93.
Back on the NC, I wonder if the new NAP 250.3 could be used to power directly from my Uniti Star, so basically using the source and pre-amp and jump over itās internal amp to 250.3
Indeed, the 222 sounds brighter than the 272 (and the Atom HE) but the Naim sound is still there. After some time you are used to it.

Sounds not very optimistic
Really prefer the 272 sound.
Sounds not very optimistic
To be specific: more information may seem a bit brighter, but with a less ābrighterā option the missing information just isnāt (and will not be) there. My speakers have enough authority to handle the slightly different sound balance. Naim used to sound a little bit cut off in higher regions, well that is history. And I like it.
Where have you found these Chord HiCap to NAP 250.3 cables ? It is not easy as both NAP250.3 ,NAP250 DR and NAP 300 DR have XLR inputs but with different wirings.
Special order to Chord through dealer.
Be careful with the cables Pik N Mix I predict tears.

Interesting - I have the feeling that my S1 has made the sound a bit ābrighterā than with the 552. Maybe thatās what people mean when the say the new series is more statement like in its sound?
That looks very like an LP12, an NAC72 and a NAP260. I canāt see if heās gone for an ARO or an Ekos, though.
I canāt remember the name of the cartoonist (Fred, possibly?), but I remember that he used to draw cartoons for QUAD that appeared in hifi and music magazines many years ago.
Iām not sure when NACA5 was introduced
Naim website has the following
SPEAKER CABLE
Product Introduced History/change(s) Date of change
NAC A4 1981 Replaced by NAC A5 1989
NAC A5 1989
Super Lumina 2014
so unless it was old stock @AndrewH13 is likely to have NACA5.
The picture you posted is not the current speaker plug supplied with NC250 which is more rounded, which the pic below shows.
It was Bod.
Hi @AndrewH13 it was good to see you at HFL on Saturday. You beat me to a report of the demo, so well done. Iāll put mine up shortly. I already have my NSC222 + NC250 sans NPX installed - you wonāt be disappointed if you take the leap. Ask Paul to put us in touch if you would like to listen to my setup here.
On the question of speaker cable, you will see my post above, it is likely yours will be NACA5 by purchase date - post a pic and ask RD if you would like a definitive answer. One point worth bearing in mind if they date from 1992, best to consider having both ends re-terminated with fresh solder. 4mm plugs will suffice at speaker end and the NC25 comes with the latest style of Naim speaker plug - see my photo above.
Thank you, Richard. His subjects were often puffing on a pipe.
Just spent a very enjoyable morning at Naim New Classic demo hosted by Paul and Wendy at HiFi lounge, with Naim support provided by Darren. System on Fraim having been set up by JG, with Focal speakers.
Pic below, HFL had organised three slots during the day. Iāve recently installed my NSC222 + NC250 sans NPX. Therefore personally interested to hear the uplift w/o, then with NPX. As usual in demo settings, while Darren made some nice track selections, most I was not familiar. Last track was from PF The Wall, so finally a track a few of us knew!
There is no doubt that NC250 has closed the gap on NAP300 - is it equal, time will tell? If there is a NC300 to follow, then likely the previous levels will be reestablished. No giveaways but hints suggest, more may be revealed at Munich.
The new units are a genuine result of a long journey and lot of hard work. Congrats due to Steve @110dB and the team, a real treat to listen to. The units are worth a listen for those considering the New Classic released so far.
Thanks to HFL for the invite (excellent coffee) and to Darren for a good account of what is available during the demo; no embargoes broken.
ps I could not work out why Darren stood by the left speaker for the whole of the demo, w/o NPX and then changed sides for the whole of the + NPX part of the demo - who knows ??
Nice to see a solstice in attendance. Was it played?
