In the UK I have found that 20% off the Naim list price was never difficult to find. Last purchase was 2021.
Anyone using the MM phonostage on the 222? Thoughts welcomed.
I mustāve missed this ā¦ what are the rumours?!
Discussion of products yet to be released isnāt allowed here.
I think the only publicly available price was a (released by mistake) US dealer page for Superline replacement, very nice piece of kit. It was quickly removed, but that component has been covered on this thread (NVC331).
Itās back up on various US sites (with specs/pics) now if you care to find price. June fast approaches!
Itāll be interesting to see if US retail prices for the NC can hold up. Our economy is contracting albeit slowly due to rate increases and the NC kit seems reflective of inflationary components, labor, and distribution. I havenāt noticed too much of a drop on s/h prices at this point, in fact many prices seem inflated though I donāt expect they sell at those asks. I feel pretty insulated from it all given I purchased relatively new kit at low s/h prices and Iām content with the SQ. Iāll certainly keep an eye out for opportunities though. lol.
Thanks Iain, weāll just have to wait and see, hopefully on the 18th
Iām still thinking each new box might be the same price as the current NC boxes ā¦ never had a streamer/DAC/pre all in one box, a power supply and a power amp all at exactly the same price before ā¦ makes sense to me at least
Just spent the evening listening to the new 200 series. Obviously unfamiliar listening space n all but my lasting impression was a very clean and pitch black sound. The midrange was well lit up with beautiful micro detail. The treble was well extended without it being sharp. The only criticism I have was there wasnāt enough slam, leading edge definition - as I expected - being accustomed to 552/135 system. The 300 also had more of it. The flow of the music was very nice. The NAP 250 was working a really large space and the speaker cables were Super Lumina before Focal Diablo Utopias standmount speakers. So my point is considering all of this it wasnāt surprising that the space wasnāt as pressurised hence the less than expected punch.
Obviously I donāt have a conclusion on the setup but overall considering itās a streaming preamp and the introductory separates power amp I was very impressed.
Well just had a look back through this thread a bit, as i havenāt bothered looking at it before.
Lotās of talk about separate power supplies etc.
In my opinion, i think people need to first remember how long most off the gear thatās being replaced has been arround, its been a very long time, and its well over due.
Separate power supplies in extra boxes arenāt really necessary these days if done right in the first place, yes they can still offer increased quality, but that can be lost in the cables needed to connect them. Etc. So you can just end up with just more boxes and little or no gain, or even slightly backwards.
Loads of boxes, loads of cables that can pick up noise etc, along the way, is not really the best way these days, plus most people dont want it.
I can easily believe the new 250 can beat the 300dr, as a 300dr is just the old 250dr in 2 boxes, nothing really extra other than that, thats why the gains are only slight. But the new range does sound different to the old range, and maybe its more to do with that?
But going back to power supplies, transformers have got better along with the regulators needed, both these things mean that, if you have space in the box to put it all, plus you correctly go about isolation, then its not really a problem.
Lotās of other manufacturers can do it, lots of these also have much larger power supplies in them compared to even the 500dr, so it can be done, but more importantly done well.
Itās going to be interesting what is going to be next realised in a few weeks time.
I still hope they can bring out an intergrated that beats a 500/552 combo, as i am sure they can do it if they want too, plus i feel they need to as i see the market for it.
Take the new pre amp section and throw a couple of the new 250 amps into a bigger one box, or something like that, and produced your new best selling product.
Go on naim do it.
Wishful thinking Dunc
Might need a crane to lift it into place
But agree Naim have a great opportunity to do something special with a new integrated amp
Iām looking forward to that one
I am using it with my Dynavector 10X5, it works extremely well, much better than I expected which is good. Whether it works as well with other cartridges I have no idea. My dealer was very surprised at how good the pairing was.
I disagree, the separate power supplies make a huge difference and an all-in-one will never be in the same ball park.
I agree with you completely Stephen
If itās not the case why have Naim introduced the new classic PS
Wowā¦! Another DV10X fanā¦?
As a long term 10X user, in various forms, I am not surprisedā¦
(I have run 10Xās into ā¦ an A&R A60, a Naim 42, a Naim 102 and now a Naim 82.)
Itās called value adding.
Ie: profit to the bottom line
New products not necessary better than old one, even if today there are more technical capabilities to do so. Keeping cost down, margin up and most of market request (or market manipulation/consumer āeducationā) often brings products less good than used to be.
To make integrated better than 500/552, but at what price (weight, etc).
New sounding could bring in some new consumer, but cut some old fans.
Youāre an electrical engineer?
No. A bricklayer.
For over 30 years I had Arcam system and got to point of upgrading to new models without auditioning or comparing which led me to a sq and product that was inferior. Switched to Naim brand . So new is not always better. When you get to that stage of buying/upgrading on brand loyalty without A/B comparison you are on shaky ground imo.
