The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

Some people say it can degrade as well and benefits from a switch off now and again.

Maybe with that last one we should start a thread “old audiophile’s tales”

My experience with electronics and burn-in has consistently been that it is pretty great out of the box. Then there are several days to weeks where it sounds off-song in some way, the degree of this varies from mildly off to almost unlistenable in some cases. Then it gradually starts to come back on song and eventually you get the full picture a few hundred hours in. Frustrating at times, but I’ve learned to wait it out before making final judgements.

YMMV!

Thanks :+1:

Sure and why not :slightly_smiling_face:

New Classic NAP 250 the six million dollar amp :sunglasses: is better, stronger and faster than the NAP 300 DR. Quite a ring to it :+1:

Yes it will keep on improving. My 222/300 is 7 weeks old now and still improving despite a kitten-related temporary dip, for those interested please refer to my post today in the “Show us your pets” thread.

If you ever receive the NAIM cables I would be interested to know how do they compare to the designcabless.

Last I checked they still didn’t have them. I’m using Mogami’s from designacable now. They are better and not much more. You just have to ask them to make them.

Hi, advice needed - as I don’t have the cash to go for a full New Classic system, from my reading it appears that the only way of doing one box at a time, is to go with the 250 first as it will work with my current 282/Super Cap boxes. Is that right? I currently have a 250DR.
Also will the improvement in SQ be worth it?
Thanks
Best wishes Amer

No.

Yes, you can use the new 250 with your NAC282 and Supercap, however you’ll need the required interconnects;
Lead Assembly, Legacy Preamp DIN to New Classic PA XLR, Left Channel, 4 pin DIN to XLR 00-010-0244
Lead Assembly, Legacy Preamp DIN to New Classic PA XLR, Right Channel, 4 pin DIN to XLR 00-010-0244

Should the Part Numbers be the same…?

That’s what’s in the compatibility list sheet.

Yes and yes.

There is a dealer (Trade Member) above that keeps on posting that the new 250 DR is better than the NAP 300 DR. …and there are members who run a NAC 282 with SuperCap DR into a NAP 300 DR.

So a very good chance the new 250 DR would be a good way to start the journey if your eventual goal is the New Classic range.

Source is an unclear factor yet

There is no comparison between the 250DR and the 250.3. It’s vastly better and made the DR sound like a bottleneck in my 252DR system. It’s on par with the 300DR IMO and does some things better. It comes down to preferences and system matching. I would home demo vs a 300DR if you can.

OP says he wants to get to the new range, so 300 DR is out. As asked first purchase on the new road is 250-3.

It depends on the current source. It it’s below the average level of the ultimate goal, it makes sense to start with 222.

Maybe the first purchase should be the new 300 series preamp. Or maybe the 222.

Lets (try to) not forget that the NC range doesn’t change how things ‘work’ in Naim…

The (conventional) wisdom has always been that a good Pre Amp and/or Source is the best way to go…!

The difficultly arises with comparisons such as NC250 vs NAP300 - ??
