The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

I have never experienced this although sometimes it ‘can’ improve what is already good that came beforehand with a bit of extra care & attention. What i don’t understand here is folks wanting Naim to be like everyone else? I got into Naim to get away from the usual mundane herd…

Well other manufacturers don’t produce the Naim “sound” which is why we are here

I’m a big fan of their past power supplies and being what they bring to the final overall sound my view is they were reasonably priced despite what others may say

Certainly, if you seperate them, it removes that slight glassiness.

That’s fair enough and each to their own but to illustrate my point where I live an XPSDR is the same price as a 250DR and about €500 more than a SN3 and similarly priced to a Nova. A 555psu is just shy of €10k! Anyway we digress……

Indeed - announcements in the next few days

so like every company ever incorporated since records began then…

Every manufacturer does things their own way, thats fine, but it doesn’t make it right or wrong either. We chose with way we want to go.
As for the mundane herd quote, you could say you joined the flock instead.

Yep only a few more sleeps.

You got your wallet open ready to strike :crazy_face:

I replaced my SU with the NC 222/250 combo and have been absolutely delighted.

I’ve had Naim probably longer than many on here and of course the whole separate power supply goes back to Naim’s humble beginnings. But those beginnings were 50 years ago, and just because a design approach was considered necessary then doesn’t mean it’s the only way now. If we get the 332 and mono power amps that everyone expects, that’s a five box amplifier if people go the whole hog with two NPX300s. Some will like that, others won’t. Those five boxes will still be smaller and lighter than some top end integrateds, but come with four mains leads, a few burndies and interconnects, and the need for multiple shelves. It’s a lot of complication and it’s easy to see why many don’t want that.

These days I’m using a Nova, and it’s very good. The Supernait 3 I had before was very good. No separate supplies with either. But when you get to the top level stuff the separate supplies are considered essential. I wonder at what point they become essential, and indeed whether they really are. Anyway, it matters not, you pays your money and makes your choice.

Yep I’m just transferring some funds from your account to mine now.

Ha ha - damn you got there before me I was about to do the same to your bank account :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hate to think what a 300 level streamer and 300 level preamp will cost in this country

Think I’ll just be a tyre kicker, it’ll be interesting to see what drops next though.

Me too. I’ve gone one step further and have introduced my system to a separate bass speaker with it’s own on-board amplifier & PSU. Result? Absolutely stonking!

Yep it matters not HH

I had Nova but didn’t get on with it

In one system I have the SN3/HICAPDR - it’s very good I must say, could possibly live without the HICAP might give it a go one day but on second thoughts not likely

@Bevo
Hi
Just noticed your comment.
I use SN3 on its own and am well happy with the power and detail.
I have a very good friend who also has an SN3 he box reduced from Pre power and Hicap DR.
He sold the separates and kept hold of the Hi cap as he had it anyway.
After a few weeks he took it out and was really happy and preferred it without.
I didn’t bother going there as I really value his opinion. :+1:t2:

Thanks Skeptikal

I see you have a very good TT source and good to see you enjoy it with the SN3

I have the LP12ARO etc and the SN3 certainly does the job

To me it’s a sweet spot in the Naim range

Of course the 252/SCDR/250DR is much better in my other TT based system ( and so it should be considering price ) but that’s another story for another time

£11k on NC probably overkill for our office! Would be better spent on an ND555 for lounge.

A used Nova however is entirely plausible.

The PS have changed, see Ian’s comment, and you now don’t need different PS for digital and analogue. And it will continue to change. The market for stacks of expensive boxes is shrinking and Naim will have to survive. Ignore reality all you want, it won’t change anything.
