The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

Naim is a relatively small niche business that is profitable (very unfashionable these days) and growing. Can’t see their strategy or the imminent New Classic series ripping up their engineering beliefs.

I love the fact that I have better SQ with my current 3 boxes than I did with my previous 5 boxes. Hopefully in ten years I’ll get better SQ with 2 boxes.

just imagine how good it would be with 5!lol

Now that you have concluded that three boxes are better than five and that in ten years, two boxes could be better than three. Let’s shift our attention back to the present day. Is any feedback available regarding the use of two NPX300 boxes with the 222?

The Nait2 sounds great one box plus a source.

I’m more interested in the use of the 555PS on the 222.

Possibly the new 300 series might have on board power supplies with the option for a separate PS like the NDX2, so a lower box count at a lower performance option.

Well the new NSS 333, NAC 332 and NAP 350 are mentioned on Naim website New Classic section. Need to see if there are more details quick!

From the Naim website, hopefully allowed. If not I expect Richard will remove.

The 300 Series line includes NSS 333, a high-resolution streaming solution, the NAC 332 preamplifier, the NAP 350 power amplifier, the NVC TT phono preamplifier and its dedicated power supply NPX TT.

Yep it sure does mention those 3 products Tapp

So there we have it a bit of a teaser

A bit early, I suppose the streamer and preamp each need a NPX300 and the 350 a two box solution

The NAP350 model number has been in public domain since January.

On the ecoustics website details for 222….

  • Optical 3.5mm output for synchronised control of compatible products e.g. NAP 250/350

Mmm npx 300/ 350 amp vs the 500dr as an upgrade path.

I think @Pete_the_painter did say previously that he read somewhere there was an announcement on 14th so I guess this is it

So we have to see if it’s fully unveiled in Munich then

All these numbers… Is there any logic in them or is it afterwork lottery? It was better when it was Nait 1.

Looking forward to an updated connection matrix

Interesting possibly but I would think it’s best to use the PS that was developed to go with it

That would seem but the 555 wasn’t developed for the 272 yet the two sound pretty amazing. Rather than put two 300s on a 222 I’d be going separate streamer, power amp, PS which will likely net more SQ gains that 222 + 2x 300.

No but the 272 was conceived with the XPS2 and 555PS in mind though. The new NPX300 was conceived with the NSS333 and NAC332 in mind and vice versa. I’m not 100% convinced with these legacy compatibilities but maybe I’m wrong

More permutations for you try mate :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
