An old friend from school flew a DC-3 from Argentina to Dublin in 1984
Same pilot.
Surely not. Mr Wallis passed a while ago.
Is it? I thought it was Peter Davies flying it in the pic. You’re probably right though. Only had swift glance on my phone.
I didn’t, when I took these, realise that one day the subject would be classic. However, that’s the passage of time and in this case 1993.
My first visit to the Canadian Rockies and we’d just stopped to admire the view when this train hove into view. I now know that the location is termed ‘Morant’s Curve’ after the CPR’s special photographer from the mid 20th Century. The locomotives have been retired by the CP, and the cylindrical ‘Trudeau’ grain hoppers, about a mile of which are following these engines, are also being retired.
If I can add a few more, these are slightly later, from 1996, largely featuring the SD40-2 around Field BC. These locomotives have a 16 cylinder 2 stroke that makes a wonderful sound….and does about 8 gallons a mile when opened up. Back then there were usually 3 at the front and 2 in the middle and just up the hill from Field as they go through the lower spiral tunnel you get to see three parts of the train moving in different directions crossing over itself.
My daughter and husband did a cruise out of Vancouver up to Alaska and the train excursion looked wonderful, tempted, must get some pics.
Coincidentally, my sister was the ship’s doctor on the Pacific Princess, one of the two stars of ‘The Love Boat’, and spent several months cruising between Vancouver and Glacier Bay.
This was taken in July 1991 from Prospect Point by the Lion’s Gate Bridge and my sister swears she was on deck waving up at me (I had a dayglo back pack cover) but I could never see where she was!
While I have the thread open, I thought I’d be cheeky and share a few more….
This one is at Lake Louise and they are bringing back the empties.
This was taken at Hazel Avenue (I think) in Jasper
And this is also Jasper. The trains are enormous but are like pin scratches in that incredible landscape.
When cruise ships were still ships and not like visiting Vegas with the option of drowning…
Very nice!, always liked the CP livery.
Gary
Please keep em coming!
Gary
Well, since you egged me on…
These two are from Jasper. The Via Rail F40s are used for the passenger trains and on one visit the “Skeena” was in the yard with 3 locomotives and 23 carriages.
Continuing the Canadian theme but going back in time…
We have a pre war Royal Hudson 4-6-4 which carries the name and the crown by permission of King George VI following his 1939 tour of Canada
And two more. One with the school trip getting prepped (before people called the cops if you photographed other folks’ kids!)
And said trip returning along the British Columbia Railway line that runs (ran) alongside Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky Highway into North Vancouver.
