Probably not many more days like this left this year now.
2 mile walk in the sun followed by 30 minutes rehab physio. Ploughed through today’s Big Issue over a coffee on the patio and spent an hour reading my latest book (see the WAYR thread). After a lovely cheese and broccoli salad I worked an hour working on further crafting a PIP tribunal submission followed by 2 hours, still in the sun, working through song lyrics on the 58 songs I currently have on the go. 8 pretty much done I’m pleased to say. By the end of tomorrow, with some work to be done on the train, I expect 58 to come down to 30.
After tea I was horrified to note some actual drops of rain, so reluctantly came inside and spent a lovely 2 hours just further refreshing my acoustic guitar technique.
Reports of storms tomorrow have inevitably drifted into light rain. I’m off to meet a couple of university friends in York so no chances taken and both hifi and TV are all powered down.
It could be argued that some showed more interest in pointing out off topic discussions than they did discussing the allegedly on topic. It is of course possible to open a FIFA thread but no-one has.
Toddled off to Godmanchester today with a “sick” Meridian 5000C centre speaker to see if it can be repaired. It’s quite a complex beastie; digital audio interface & control, and then 2.5 way active.
The digital side seems to be OK, but there is no sound, and the “clipping/overload” yellow LED is ON way too much….like permanently!
Long day’s driving; 3 hours + each way, even though it’s pretty much all motorway.
Got back home after a long hot day to discover I’d run out of beer…….
Lovely day in York with 2 friends from university days. Stayed over on the Monday night and watched York City v Crawley, which was rather good timing. The Leeds fan lives in York. The QPR fan lives in Crawley. Hates Crawley. A day of nothing but walking, talking, coffee, pub lunch and the fantastic Topping and Company bookshop.
Day enhanced marginally by mostly escaping the rain and thunder and Searfrog twice giving me first class tickets both 20 minutes earlier than usual and with no charge attached. No idea what happened there.
Spent my train time constructively reducing 58 songs to around 50. Not where I want to be but all creativity is good.
One of the joys of retirement. Getting jobs done which needed to be done some time ago.
My garage door repair person tipped me off to a painter he uses and we’re getting 2 garage doors plus surrounds and the house front door and wooden surrounds all done for £150 cash and the cost of some paint. He thought it might take a couple of days but thanks to some excellent straight to metal/wood paint and a strong prevailing wind everything has dried ludicrously quickly and everything looks very smart indeed. Looks like we’re even going to be able to take a litre back. An excellent job being done so I’m about to ask if he fancies 20+ fence panels in green before the end of the month.
Done a cracking job tbf and we were both very impressed with the Zinsser paint I’d been recommended. Already booked him for September to come do the garden gates and all the fencing.
Had a play with Home Assistant over the last few days, managed to get a basic screen with my Airplay capable media players and a list of radio stations with the help of some automations.
Went on a day tour to Skellig Michael. It hasn‘t changed much in 41 years apart from the public toilet block. These beehive huts were probably built between the 6th and 8th centuries.
