Hi David,

Yeah but at least with a camera you put it up to your eye and can take a pic between people’s heads and not get in anyone’s way. Tw4ts with phones otoh…
I only use my phone to take pictures, which can easily equal a ‘proper’ camera. It’s not about the hardware, it’s about attitude. I’ve been in galleries where people take videos of the picture and then the description that goes with it. Whether it’s a phone, an SLR or a compact, I just want to say, why don’t you buy the f.ing guide that’s for sale in the shop, and get out of the f.ing way. It’s just ignorant to stand in front of a picture for ages, getting in the way. These blockbuster exhibitions are best avoided really.
Lucky you my favourite artist
Proper lovely it was. I’ve seen many in various galleries over the years but all those lovelies in one place…Despite the twonks.
I’ve been to his gallery in Amsterdam a few times and seen a lot his stuff in NY. To think he only painted for 10 years, remarkable a true genius.
Saw the exhibition at the Tate pre pandemic, very, very good but very sad at the same time. Cumulatively you could see the depression thru his pictures.
I left saddened by what I saw .
Funny how we react differently I always leave his work inspired.
Nice building as well…Designed by Rietveld, though he died not too long afterwards…
Later addition is by Kurokawa. One of those buildings that works well despite the different design hands. Has a nice scale overall, though I guess mainly due to being mainly dedicated to Van Gogh.
I like that whole square actually…well, Amsterdam in general…! Haven’t been for some time now…

I can only just remember what the building was like as I was so taken in by his work. His probably been my single biggest influence, I just stand in front of some (most) of his paintings a thing of beauty.
The one thing that surprised me was the top floor (4th I think) were some of his mistakes and poor early work. Most artists would keep them and not really liked the public to see. But it’s Van Gogh his a rockstar.
Ok so that’s a Danalogic-branded Resound hearing aid I think.
Did you try the BeMore phone app? That should give you quite a bit of control, depending what the fitter has enabled.
I’m using the BeMore app and it does allow a range of tweaks - noise reduction, speech filter etc.
Everything seems really loud at the moment, i will just have to see if the underlying distortion of my own hearing improves.
Imagine a kid’s walkie talkie toy from the 70s, that’s what speech sounds like to me.
May I seek some advice re my elderly aunt, who needs quite strong hearing assistance now (both ears), having had hearing evaluations (mapping) and also various tests, as she’s also suffering from balance issues.
Would you recommend going the NHS route or would she be better off with a private audiologist (it’s been suggested to avoid the high street stores)?..ignoring the costs of these routes.
It also has a volume control, so you might find it more comfortable turned down a bit. It’s set per program. Did they give you a Music program? You should get less distortion with that than with the main program which has lots of not terribly clever digital processing. But maybe I will discuss this in the other forum as it may not be of interest to lots of folk here.
Also the distortion is probably coming from your cochlear and you should find that your brain does adapt, but it takes weeks or months not hours or days. Makes Naim running in timescales the weakling kid on the block!
If you get the chance it’s well worth a trip to Arles. It’s a lovely town and you can walk around and spot the locations for the paintings. Some of them have a copy of the painting so you can compare it with the reality. It’s very cleverly done.
Thanks! X-ray of the lungs showed nothing worrying. I’m still up and running!
I’ve nudged the left side down a touch and it sounds a little more balanced now. My left is pretty much dead from 1kHz and above and has no speech ability - this has been the case since the early 70s - there’s been no change in my left for decades.
The distortion is most likely coming from the vestibular nerve that the tumour is attached to and possibly damaged by a 7mm lump pressing on it. It may have gone down in size and relieved the pressure allowing the return of some hearing.
The implant is downstream from the damage but nobody can predict the outcome, and it’s a one-way ticket! It’s not a risk I am prepared to take for the moment.
There’s no music programme but I can’t yet understand a news broadcast on the telly without subtitles.
We spent a few days there just before covid, did all the touristy things.
Excellent. We stayed in a hotel right on the square, with the Yellow Cafe opposite. It’s a lovely town with some excellent restaurants. Despite having tourists it seemed very down to earth.
I will hear nothing better than that all day!
