Thinking of upgrading beyond the SN3 next fall. What might be best?

@Murmur There is no US distributor. I checked.

I am surprised that no many suggested 282/hicap/250 dr. At bargain prices todays.

@frenchrooster if I purchase, it would be what is new.

Sell everything with a Naim badge on it.
Replace with half width Cyrus components from the 40 range, and full width from the new 80 range as needed.
40 streamer, 40 cd player, 40 amp, 40 phono stage. 2 shelves, 2 boxes per shelf.
Works brilliantly with Spendor d7.2.

Cool looking stand that’s for sure.

They worked with the furniture maker Simon Little who made a wooden hark rack previously. The new one is very smart indeed.
Obviously doesn’t work so well with the full width 80 series just announced.

Too fussy for my taste but thanks for sharing. Good to see another manufacturer taking supports seriously.

Some shops have still the old classic new.

@frenchrooster That may be the case, but I support my dealer.

Jaybar, it seems like you really paint yourself into a corner regarding upgrades. You did the same thing when you asked about upgrading your headphone listening. You ask advice, and it seems like you never take it because of your insistence on using that one dealer for everything. You can not change shelf heights, no support from ā€œotherā€ dealers etc., so in the end, just contact your favourite dealer and see what they have to offer you.
I do understand you have disabilities, so that limits your options.
Good luck with your upgrades.

@NO-QUARTER Sometimes life is more complicated. I have a husband whose wishes also need to be factored in. He wants to keep our CDP. If it was just up to me, I would move on. He is open to new racks which would solve a lot of the problems, but he does not want them higher. So we need to look at new racks in that context. With new racks and increased electrical outlets, some of the barriers may be eliminated. My previous equipment (electronics) was Spectral and then AYRE and then Rega none of those required power supplies so the rack space was never an issue. Spectersl and AYRE had superb built in phono stages that fully supported MC, so the need for shelf space to accommodate a phono stage was also not an issue.

In retrospect I did not think through these issues when choosing Naim. Ease of operation was the primary factor. Truth be told, I am listening way more since moving to Naim. Whether that is b/c it easier to operate or just sounds better to me, I know not. I guess what is key is I am listening more and discovering things any the music that I never heard before.

Reconciling high end audio with disability is not easy. Brands often don’t factor in ease of operation when there is disability. Naim is better than most and the SN3 with buttons is quite accommodating. I am not sure that Naim’s new stuff will be as easy for me. I will need to visit the dealer and try out options. I would eventually like to move towards separates and a headphone amp. My first move might be to upgrade my streamer—either with a 555PS or else move to the 333.

When I was considering a new system, I approached 5 NYC dealers. Only ONE was willing to provide the level if home support we need. That limits brand choices and what is possible, but such is life.

Have you considered a New Classic 332 and 250 in place of the Supernait and Hicap. You could then sell the NDX2 and get a 333. That’s three boxes. Add a Naim phono stage powered from the 333 and job done. It will all fit in your existing racks, and can be put into standby in one click. Fewer boxes, lower power use, less faff, great sound. Seems ideal.

@HungryHalibut how do you power a phone stage from the 333?

I think a simple upgrade would be to trade in your XPSDR and Utopia Headphones on a 555DR power supply for your streamer. You could pick up some cheaper headphones for occasional use, I have a pair of Sennheiser Momentums that are cheap($) but more than good enough for occasional listening. This all might cost nothing, or HH has layed out a good path.

Naim nvc TT can be powered by socket 6 on the nac 332.

@HungryHalibut

Yes I suggested that to Jaybar

The 333/332/250 is magnificent combo

And it can all be controlled via an iPad or iPhone

This is likely where I’ll end up someday. In the meantime the SN3/HiCap/NDX2/XPSDR combo is pretty damn good and it’ll cost lots of $$ to better it. My current system is very close to @Jaybar and I’m a little surprised why it’s not floating his boat completely. I do hope I misunderstood and he’s just asking about ā€œwhat’s next?ā€. I do wonder what a NC332 would sound like using the SN3 in Power Amp mode. Question for another topic I suppose.

I have that combo now, while saving up for 350. Currently the system is: 333 → 332 → Supernait 3. Replacing the pre-amp part of Supernait 3 was a big step up. Much more relaxed, details, finer sound. And also, to me, 333 is a big step up from NDX2.

So, if you want to do it in steps (like I do) a possible way is replace NDX2 with 333. You could stay on ā€this levelā€. If continuing, add the 332 and use Supernait as power amp. And, when ready and all the finances are in place, replace Supernait completely with another power amp. Then you would have made quite a bit of an upgrade.

WOW awesome to hear!
Sorry @Jaybar I don’t mean to hijack your thread but I think this is great info for you as well. If/when I embark on this journey it’ll have to be in steps like what you’ve done. I’m just happy to hear the SN3 in power amp mode works for you. Did you have to purchase an additional cable for this to work?

@mr_christer Can the 332 and 333 perform well without external power supplies?
