Thought On Upgrade From NAP 200 to NC 250

I recently (finally) replaced my 200 with a new 250, and the first thing that struck me was that each source was improved as a result. (NAC 282, SHL-5)

It had me thinking that even though one might adhere to the ‘source first’ doctrine, this change showed how important it is to have the appropriate amp powering my speakers.

In trying to communicate what I was hearing, I likened the speakers to a skilled orchestra, and the amp to a conductor: the 250 displays greater control/ command of the orchestra, better realizing its potential. I was a little concerned going into this upgrade, but it worked out well, just thought I’d share…

We’ve had the same speakers with SuperUniti, 250DR and 300DR.

Each step up has shown exactly what you describe - the more authority and grip an amp has over speakers, the better the sound (especially with bass).

I had seen such comments on the forum (possibly from you) and it reassured me that there was room for improvement and I should go for it, thanks.

Did exactly the same upgrade - 200 to NC250 from a 282. Yes it made a difference; but having gone ‘all in’, the source and pre-amp first mantra is still extant as far as I’m concerned.
