Many new productions are distributed at 44.1/24 and 48/24 so if limited to 44.1/16 these would need to be resampled - which is unlikely going to be ideal.
Glad enabling ipv6 has fixed Tidal for you. As I say I think those that stick on ipv4 are increasingly going to get second rate service from the internet where media is concerned.
I have yet to experience any streaming issue with Tidal - and nothing of significance appearing on the Tidal streaming service down detectors.. so I suspect its not a Tidal issue per se.
Cloudflare outage impacting Roon/Tidal for me today .
Listening to one of the few ripped albums I have on Roon - Northern Exposure Vol. 1 Sasha and John Digweed - nice haven’t listened in ages.
the fix was different actually. Your post got me to check firstly if my ISP offers IPv4 on COAX/HFC, which they dont. I initially thought they did, but found its only for DSL/Fibre BB which is not available to me.
As I with your guidance logged into ND555 webpage and found the “IPv4 only” option under Network. I have now turned this on, and streaming is fully stable.
I spoke with Duncan at Naim - super helpful - and he said this simplifies things for the streamer when IPv6 is not available.
This is all completely new to me and would never have resolved myself.
Now I am testing Spotify lossless. It nominally says it can go up to 24-bit / 44,1 kHz FLAC. So far mainly got 16-bit / 44,1 which sounds very good (and stable). However in the naim diagnostic page it says stream is at 940 kbps, so below 1411 kbps of CDs. Maybe Spotify starts their lossless service with smaller file sizes and dial up later. Dont know.
If this is stable now w Spotify lossless and quality at par its a Tidal killer and will likely cancel Tidal. Lets see.
Is it possible, amidst their ongoing problems, that Tidal are prioritising key locations over less important / profitable areas, or is that not technically feasible?
Tidal costs a mere £3 / month here in Thailand (cheaper than Spotify!) so effectively forfeiting their tiny market share (me, @JamesBKK and possibly one or two others) isn’t really going to hurt their financials…
I use Tidal via the Naim app with an NDX and since the last firmware update it occasionally stops streaming randomly for no reason. Always 44.1 kHz 16 bit streaming. Tried everything I know, I don’t think it is my Vodafone hub which is reliable or the NDX. It could be, as others have already posted, Tidal’s streaming proficiency or the Focal Naim app. I have been very happy with SQ from Tidal so I don’t want to change unless to Qobuz unless it is necessary. Any advice, please?
I’m experiencing the same as you - on all my devices (172, UQ2, Sonos Move.) Maybe try Simon’s suggestion of switching to IPv4 only? Seemed to work for Lars.
It’s possible - but feels unlikely - but of course one here never knows for sure, and £3 per month is very cheap so something has to give. Tidal will likely contract - if based on my experiences - on an amount of capacity for a particular global region.
But here in the UK on BT Broadband with IPV6 I have yet to experience a Tidal streaming issue on my NDX2 and it’s typically used for an hour or two most evenings. I am kind of wanting to hear the issue - and then I go ‘a-ha’ and look at logs - but all squeaky clean I am afraid.
The downselector for the UK shows no real streaming issues - and in the error distribution shows logging-in and the Tidal app appear to have more issues than the one or two nationally reported most days for steaming - which is down in the noise.
This is the fix that worked for me to fix Spotify Connect that stopped working with the last set of firmware updates. for me - I was a little disappointed in Naim support. After exchanging several emails this wasn’t suggested to me. Discovered the fix myself, informed Naim and never heard back.
Recently I have occasionally had Tidal just stop playing from its queue. I’m not sure of the reason but it can be easily restarted.
More annoying is using Tidal Connect when after a while the app “forgets’ where it’s streaming to, or even that it is streaming at all. Music plays but the app doesn’t show it. To fix this I need select something to play, which defaults to playing on my iPad, pause it, then switch to my streamer which then shows what is actually still playing! What a faff!
Tidal Connect losing the device has been an issue since we got our NDX2… happens less often than with earlier firmwares, but still a nuisance. I think it is more prevalent when “flicking around” different artists/albums such as when going down the related artists tree.
Definitely naim related, our non naim endpoint in the office never has the issue (and it can be used for fairly extended listening sessions, with frequent pauses).
Well no harm trying new things… but Tidal has no general stability issue.. so is likely to do with something in your environment or locality, in which case it would affect Qobuz as well.
Both use CDNs to stream from.. and in some areas they may well share the same CDN.
It might be worth checking your Naim streamer diagnostic web page when you next have issues, and see if anything is showing red.
The diagnostic page is found by pointing your browser at your streamer.
IPv4 only setting on - I have YouSee coax/cable internet and they dont offer ipv6, which is default for my naim streamer. On the streamer home page I set it to Ipv4 only
For tidal, i set the resolution not to max but to CD equivalent resolution. This reduces the file size a lot and its still CD quality which is often also the format used for recording. This stabilized tidal with no 1
Spotify lossless - I have cancelled tidal and now am on Spotify with lossless. Never had an issue since still with ipv4
Im affraid I dont even know what ISP is. I will say though, that I tried restarting the amp, and if I only use Tidal through the Naim/Focal app, it appears to be working a lot better (for now )
