Tidal ‘Suggested Tracks’

Hi -
I use the Naim app on my iPad to play Tidal music. Is it possible to access the Tidal ‘suggested tracks’ feature with this configuration?

We can’t use the naim app for Tidal because many of the standard feeds aren’t listed. For instance, every day I listen to the “Daily Discovery” feed but have to use the Tidal app to access - playing through Tidal Connect.

naim previously explained that the API provided to them by Tidal doesn’t allow access to all feeds. I always took that explanation with a pinch of salt, since many other client apps like BubbleuPnP show all the standard feeds which are missing from the naim app.

In the naim app Tidal view if you change to second icon there are Albums and Tracks sections…

You can change to “Recommended” there. However, I’ve no idea which Tidal “feed” that is - perhaps one not personalised, as it bears no resemblance to the “suggested albums” or “suggested tracks” we see in the Tidal app :sob:

naim app “Albums/New”…

naim app “Albums/Recommended”…

(This list is pretty useless as we already have Saint Etienne as an album in our favourites list!)

Tidal app “Suggested Albums”…

I can’t see, anywhere in the Tidal app, a feed providing same suggestions as the naim Recommended lists for albums OR tracks.

The Tidal app also has, on the homepage, loads of other suggestions based on previously listened to albums etc. It’s just a much richer and more useful experience.

Thanks. Sorry to display my ignorance, but if you use the Tidal app, don’t you have to stream using either Bluetooth or AirPlay?

No, you have a 333 which supports Tidal Connect

OK, many thanks - I’ll move to the Tidal app.

When you select the “cast” icon in Tidal app (currently playing track view) you should see your naim device(s) listed as Connect options.

You’ll soon forget about the naim app for Tidal

I also think Tidal Connect sounds slightly better on a Naim streamer vs traditional Tidal streaming via the Naim app, possibly down to different libraries/APIs.
The latest Naim software release has tidied up a stability issue that used to occur with Tidal Connect.

Recommend in Naim app is equivalent to Staff picks in Tidal app (playlists, tracks, albums)

Ah!

What a waste of time, we want to see curated suggestions not what Tidal staff like….

Yes, it no longer randomly disconnects from the streamer when a new album is played in the Tidal app! That was quite an annoyance.

indeed

I actually find this useful way to find new (to me) music which I would not necessarily come across otherwise. I sometimes random play staff pick tracks and find something I like and want to explore more.

Of course I understand the value of curated content too…
