Get well soon PB.
Aw ra best fur a quick recovery, Nigel.
hope all goes well & speedy recovery PB
All gone well thanks peeps, I am back home now with the system playing, it’s been a long day and nothing beats coming home and relaxing in front of the system
That’s better, I have my Hi-line back from Naim. Unfortunately the collar broke in transit and it had to back to Naim HQ for some talc.
It’s gone straight onto the NAtT01 and straight from the off, there is more sparkle. There is something tonally right about the Hi-line cable.
It does beg the question, would the NAT benefit from a Superlumina cable, is it more of the same but better or does the Superlumina have a different tonal character?
I’m sure Peter would be happy to assist you in exploring this…
I am sure he will but it kind of defeats the object of a discussion group
I was disappointed with the SL DIN-DIN. It’s beautifully built, more robust than the HiLine, sounds smoother and has a lower noise floor, but fails to capture vocal and instrumental texture as well, which makes it less realistic, less visceral, less “present’ and less moving for me despite its strengths.
Glad the op went well. Best wishes for a speedy and musical recovery.
Thanks Michael,
That’s what I thought. I have heard many Superlumina based systems and none have stirred the soul, they lacked emotion. Putting the Hi-line back into the system last night not only added sparkle but it brought a greater sense of realism and emotion.
Now then, I might just replace the Chord Music on the CD555 with the Hi-line and see what effect it has there.
@Polarbear when I tried music on the ND555 I was not blown away like most others. I stuck with my SL but recently decided to try the HiLine that came with the ND… The SL has gone. I preferred the natural presentation of the HiLine. Probably not for everyone as its certainly less impressive but grooves better.
I haven’t tried the hi-line. When I went to buy an interconnect for the NDX2 my dealer has a used S/L, so I ended up with that. Now I have a full S/L loom, NDX2, 252 and speaker cables. I really like the presentation of them, really clear with improved soundstage (width and depth), low noise floor and lovely micro dynamics (vocal inflection etc). I’ve always found them to have a very natural and organic presentation.
I guess with all these things, it’s a matter of presentations and preferences. Find what you like and enjoy it.
A few years ago I tried HiLine and Chord Tuned Aray interconnects and couldn’t get on with either of them. I now use a SL full loom and it is just superb. All SLs take an age to run in but it is worth the wait and patience.
This string of comments just goes to show how personal cable choice is, and it may also be system and room dependent. I often suspect some make a decision on cables that are not properly run in. Indeed I still suspect that the Chord TA interconnect I tried was not run in as it sounded so strange, but the dealer insisted it was, so I abandoned it.
I hate to say it, but I found the Music had the same weaknesses as the SL. I look forward to reading what you hear….
As ever, you get three people comment and three different opinions. Don’t you just love this hi-fi game. I find the Chord Music excellent at everything. A low noise floor, lots of detail, a sumptuous mid range and a huge soundstage but…., let’s see, I will give the CD 555 a bit more warm up time. It’s taking longer to settle down than the NAT 01 but it’s had a new mechanism as well as a service and DR upgrade so I am not surprised it’s taking longer to run in.
Search out some female voice. It lost some of the detail in my system, like fricatives and the stop on the t in traumert in Elisabeth Schwarzkopf singing the second (I think) of the Strauss 4 last songs
Every day is a school day

I had to look that one up myself That’s one of the area’s missing on the CD555 at the moment, that sense of air and space around vocals and notes is yet to appear.
I knew the fricatives would flush ‘em all out!
Are you sure it’s the CD555 and not differences due to the acoustic character of the new room?
I think the SL more fluid and richer than the hiline on my CDS3.
