And a whole lot more besides
Yes, I was just reading that…Very sad.
It doesn’t seem long ago I was reading a BBC piece about his marriage with Prunella and coping with her Dementia….
SC
A great actor who looked after Prunella his wife, suffering dementia. Ironically she survives Timothy, r.i.p
Yes, very sad all the way .
It’s sad to hear of his passing but a life well lived.
We own a narrowboat and spend weeks/months on the boat for part of the year travelling the canals and we shared a few double locks several years ago with Tim and Pru. He was a very nice man I thought and Prunella was lovely too and not so obvious with her dementia in those days. He certainly did not have any air of being a celeb we just chatted like you would with anyone in those circumstances.
It will be a very unsettling time for Pru with her condition but I expect her family will make sure she has the care she needs.
Very sad news.
An extremely competent actor, convincing in any part he played.
Enjoyed a brief chat with him over a coffee when he was appearing in a play in Truro some 10/12 years ago.
Sympathies to his family.
Timothy West, aside from being a fine actor, always seemed really nice. I bumped into him in Whittards in Chichester a while back. Then one night I was at the Festival Theatre waiting at the bar. The back of the bar is mirrored, so you can see who is next to you in the reflection. I noticed a couple and thought ‘I recognise you, who are you?’ Of course, it was Timothy and Prunella, waiting patiently along with everyone else. He’ll be missed.
I am just going to say Royal Jelly
My impression as well. Watched the canal series, and he always seemed very caring wrt Prunella’s issues. A thoroughly nice person!
I had breakfast with Susan George when she was in Norwich filming this episode of Tales of the Unexpected in May/June 1979.
I’m too honest to leave it there. Was staying in a nice hotel with my wife while we were house hunting following a work promotion & she was staying there as well. She asked my wife about shopping in the city &, finding we were also strangers, she invited us to have breakfast with her.
When her car arrived to take her to the filming location I rushed to open the hotel door for her & then let it go in my wife’s face. She never let me forget it!
Timothy West was staying in another hotel & I believe that the external shooting took place in Aylesham, a few miles north of Norwich.
Very small world, Big fan of the series when growing up and this is my wife’s favourite episode, that theme music takes me back. I’m sure your wife will also have memories of this!
Sad news indeed. A good few years ago at a local theatre, I recall seeing him playing Falstaff in Henry 1 with Sam West as Prince Hal. We were sitting towards the middle of the audience and in one interval I thought I’d heard a very recognisable voice from a couple of rows behind. Turning around saw it was Prunella just sitting in ordinary seats with a friend, supporting hubby and son.
A great team.
Roger
That is a good memory
Sam West is a very fine actor indeed
I saw him and Prunella Scales in a production of "When we are married’ in 1986 near Trafalgar square. A very charismatic and capable pair they were. Very sad.
A shame, a terrific character actor no longer with us, but hey, at least he’s remembered for his contribution to Eastenders and the Canal Journeys!
I prefer Brass. Classic comedy series from the 80’s, one of my favourites.
Like Yes Minister, Brass accurately reflects the way things really were (are ).
