Simply that compared with a bespoke solution, I don’t think that a lot of NAS installations would have the computing power or the speed that I require, my back up NAS certainly wouldn’t. Having said that, if it works for you then fine.
One thing you need to have Roon installed on an SSD wether on Nas or other or you will have a slow database especially a large library. This is one area you really should not skimp on or it will be a very sub par experience.
I ended my trial on Friday and dident sign up, when cancelling they asked me for feedback and I said I enjoyed it but thought it was a tad expensive for what it was. Today I get a nice email from a Roon chap explaining their costs for running Roon but also offering me a free extra 3 months on an annual sub plus a complimentary 3 month Tidal sub! That’s pretty decent and great customer service I have to say, won’t sway me to sign up though unless I got a killer deal on a lifetime membership!
Lifetime already is a killer deal!..
