mono toggle switch has snapped on my Naim NAC32…please see photo….where is best to get one please if still available…if not anyone got any ideas for a suitable replacement???
Many thanks in advance
I do not know if there are any originals to be had, but you can get some high-quality toggle switches if not. Ones for guitars may be an option if they will fit, as they are made to stand up to being switched robustly and frequently, and the switch mechanism is good with audio signals.
This is an example of what looks like a suitable switch but needs to be checked against the old one.
Neil works at Naim and has been in the service department for many years, so is a font of Naim knowledge. He posts on here form time to time. I’ve paged him, so hopefully he’ll see that and post up on this thread at some point.
If no like for like replacement is available and you still have the rest of the switch a repair might be possible. Is the break hollow in both directions?
Hello and Welcome
How long since your 32 has been serviced?
get the toggle done at the same time?
work out cheaper in the long run,
And confidence in knowing that your 32 be good for at least another 10years
In June 2022 I had my NAC 32.5 serviced by Naim and the toggle switches replaced as they had become stuck. The service cost covered the replacement of the switches. The new switches look different to the originals with just a thin round lever which is not as comfortable to use as the original but they seem to work just as good.
Unfortunately I don’t have the broken off switch part…but yes the stub remaining is hollow. I did think about a repair as the switch still works…I know nothing about 3D printing but I think that could be done.
thanks for coming back to me on this…how much of the base barrel part is visible through the front panel? Also how much would a service be on the NAC32 please?
thanks in advance
Jason
It will be cheaper and faster to get them both serviced at Class A. Darran (not Darren) does just as good a job as Naim and is fully approved by them. The power amp in particular should be serviced every 10 years, so it’s only 27 years overdue.
If you still had the lever then something like a short piece of steel nail (a panel pin say) could have been epoxied into the hollow ends to act as reinforcement. A plastic lever wouldn’t be strong enough to survive the first attempted use. Realistically you need a new switch.
