I loved the race along with the riders and stories that emerged. A lot of action this year and a good mix of different individuals wining stages. I loved the finish and hope they keep that in play for the future. The long parade and laps on the cobblestones for the final day was boring. Today felt like a real race instead of just a group of sprinters draging the peloton around an oval track for six laps.
JMHO - YMMV
…looking forward to the La Vuelta up next. Saturday August 23rd through September 14.

There was some great days of racing .
I knew before the start that Pog would win it barring illness and crashing or a mechanical failure.
I just dont believe in him.I want to believe but I used to believe in Armstrong.
At least Armstrong didnt start winning the classics and dominating everything.
I hope he is clean and not using some sort of motor doping.
And building the UAE team around him getting the best riders with a massive budget just makes it so hard for the other teams to compete

I agree, but the title of the blog is actually Never Strays Far - Google for a link - Boulting, Millar, Kennaugh and Lizzie Deignan. Hopefully they will recruit Gary Imlach to put together a highlights package.
Looks like they are only doing the TdF so it will be Orla Chennouai et al for the Vuelta and Giro.

I’ve just read a very downbeat article on the Tour by Ewan Wilson of Cyclist magazine. He’s particularly critical of the lack of GC attacks in the third week and that it was all over after Hautecam.
I’m saddened to say that he puts a lot my own feelings onto paper this year.
Having said that, it didn’t stop me watching, probably, between 70 and 80 hours of La Grand Boucle, supplemented of course by your own excellent coverage @Debs … thank you as always.
Here’s to next year’s ‘clockwise’ Boucle !

Ewan Wilson, in some ways, is right; the GC competition was settled very early, which was unusual in the Pod-Vin duels. However, I think in a way it was a return to a more normal way of someone getting a GC lead deciding it is a good enough lead and then defending until Paris. So, just focusing on the GC would give the mistaken impression that nothing much happened in the last 7 to 10 days. Yet, a lot was going on in other ways; breakaways ending up in wins was a dominant theme of the last week. The Green Jersey wasn’t settled until near the end. For me, I tended to focus more on the daily battles this year, which kept me enthralled. As a classic GC battle, it wasn’t a great tour, but I think this is partly because we have been spoiled by the tussles at the top of the GC over the last few years.
Whilst I enjoyed this year, I am mixed about what I would want next year, a return of Pod-Vin (possibly with other riders in the mix), attacking each other multiple times, but I would also like to keep the greater than usual number of breaks ending up as a win for one of the riders in them. Would it be possible to have both?

I thought GC was over after stage 5 personally. I didn’t see as much of the tour as I usually do for various reasons but I really enjoyed everything I did see, apart from stage 5 as we saw Vingegaard falling further and further behind. Like others it was great to see riders from the break winning and great to see Healey win a stage and really throwing himself into the stages. Onley was also a bonus. This has been an excellent thread as everyone has pointed out. Chapeau to Debs.
