Trying to determine what's broken

Deltron plugs are a good hardy plug and come in screw/solder type as well as in gold and silver versions…

Deltrons for me too :+1:

A much better contact point than those Z-plugs.

Did you remove the sleeve with a Stanley knife, or a special tool?

There seem to be different schools of thought on soldering. I’ve always gone with Naim’s recommendation that soldered is best, and it’s the only option with the plugs that they supply. I tend to use them where possible, or good old fashioned Deltrons if I don’t want right angled.
Interestingly, D**k Shahinian (of loudspeaker fame) was apparently adamant that solder should be avoided, and he recommended screw-down plugs for his speakers.

** = dirty word filter avoidance

No they unscrew from the threaded banana pin very easily by hand.

Exactly the same happened to my TQB cable connector when I had them. Goodness knows how long it had been hanging by a thread before coming apart. Moved on to WH Phantom rather than replace them.

That’s interesting. I think I’ll have them re terminated, then sell them. Will contact Witch Hat.
