Turning my Unity Star (completely) off

Good afternoon from Dortmund

My Uniti Star is placed in our sleeping room and i’d like to turn it completely off at night.
So i bought a switched power outlet. But if i disconnect the device from power (in stand by mode of course!) it makes a terrible crack in my loudspeakers. So at the moment i pull off (one side) of the ls cable every time. But this is quite annoying of course and bad for sockets and plugs.
Anyone any idea?

Thanks and best regards,

Axel

What noise is it making that is disturbing your sleep?
Naim units aren’t really designed to be unplugged constantly. You can enable deep sleep via the Naim app I believe. (Or a button press on the front).

I’d let it go into standby as usual. The only light it will then emit is from the power button. Maybe you could put a sock in the top so it dangles down over the light.

Be careful - you’ll have the ‘cloth on a vaguely warm piece of kit is a potential fire hazard’ squad on your back

That’s why I suggested a sock rather than a pair of pants.

It does not make any noise while i’m sleeping. I just don’t want it to be “on” at night. The power button shines, the lan interface shines…
It makes a noise when i pull the power cable or switch off the socket.

it’s only a little dim light of the power button during stand by, shouldn’t be much of a problem even if you turn off the bedroom lights.

If when it’s on, you hold the power button for more than 5 seconds, it should go onto deep sleep and once it has done that, you will be able to turn off the mains either by pulling the plug or using a wireless switched socket. That should be silent I think.

You can put some tape over the display to make it dimmer.

This works! Thanks a lot.

I recomment you leave it in standby…the power draw is tiny…and do as HH suggests cover the led. Switching on and off regularly is not great for the components…

If you put it in standby, you are still switching all the components off and on. Only the auxiliary power supply and network card remain powered.

I think the “deep sleep” mode is quite ok for me. It’s only the power button that keeps on glowing. The LAN-Interface is off then. :+1:t3::pray:t3:

That’s a good result. Now you can both have a deep sleep.

You can also get little stick on “light-dims” for pesky LED lights.

Can you get translucent green ones to make things sound better I wonder?
