I would say £7,500 (Majik LP12 with Lingo4 or P10 with Aphelion2) and I agree with you totally (when buying new that is, same budget preloved can give some nice extras).
Can I ask @JonathanG, what brand is the light you have on your Ash Designs rack behind the SME?

The good news is that the lamp behind the SME is a fabulous thing and cheap as chips!
I don’t think I am allowed to post a link here but if you search for LePro desk lamp on Amazon you’ll have a choice of white or black ones for a mere £13.50!
What I like best is that it’s dimmable and you can select warm or cool white too.
I have two on the hifi racks and bought another for my daughters study lamp at Uni. They’re just brilliant…
Straydog - haha, you’re right there… I think I need to spend more time writing my debut novel rather than writing hifi reviews if I am ever to afford such a machine! You’ll be pleased to hear the main protagonist is a vinyl obsessed audiophile of course!

thanks for posting the article on psycoacoustics - but i feel it danced around the topic rather than giving any real insight - as is so often the case when a non-scientist tries to explain a scientific theory
Well, I guess the author had to be careful, writing in a consumer publication that talks about High End gear. I agree he danced around the question somewhat, but it it is pretty clear that our ears cannot always be trusted, and believe what they want to believe.
