TV Power Bars/Lines - I think I’m a Foo Covert!

Chaps,

Not really audio visual but bear with me! Now I’m not really a TV person, in fact if it wasn’t for sport I may not even have, I’m very political, probably the legacy of working in Whitehall, but for that I prefer radio, and obviously for music.

However, until last week I had my main TV with GoogleChrome, DVD (cheap) and EE box plugged into an Olsen 6 way gang and to my (66 year old) eyes I thought the picture sharp, nicely saturated, plenty of detail and actually sound half okay. I’d had the Olson 20+ years, originally for the main hifi before I had the independent radial, good surge protection and VFM I thought.

Anyway, Wednesday AM the trip on the back of the house flipped and after a restart noticed that nothing on the Olsen Bar was working. Unplugged her, lid off, and the fuse had gone. On the grounds that a fuse doesn’t just blow on the advice of an electrician friend I retired the Olson and replaced with a standard Masterplug Surge that was hanging around.

All working okay, but I’m thinking the picture quality isn’t as sharp, saturated etc. Could I be imagining? It is hot after all!

Any experiences guys?

Regards,

Lindsay

If a cheap mains block has surge protection and an LED it probably isn’t doing you any favours. I have no experience of these things with TV, but I did find that such a block that I used temporarily for the HiFi degraded the sound significantly. Do you really need surge protection?

No, that’s very interesting, thanks.

My dealer always stressed to me, if you need to use a block make sure it’s either a top quality one or the cheapest you can find - definitely no surge protection and not even a light to indicate power.

Thanks guys.
