Two 5 pin SNAICS left over?

A very quick question please folks.

I have dismantled my NAC 282 and Supercap DR and am in the process of boxing them up. I appear to have two 5 pin SNAICS left over!

I have just looked at, "Accessories packed with Naim Equipment, by: Steven Hopkins on 14 August 2009", and it appears that neither of the above components come with SNAICS. Is this correct?
I don’t ever remember buying any? Am I having yet another senior moment?

Thank you.

Yes, A SNAIC5 would normally come supplied with a Hicap.

The Supercap wouldn’t be supplied with any as it could be used in various ways - SNAIC5s or Burndy cables depending on what it’s used with.

Neither 282 nor Supercap come with a Snaic5.

Cheers James. The plot thickens! :grinning:

When you use a Supercap with a NAC282 you need to buy a pair of SNAIC 5s to connect - they are separate, for the reasons James states above.

@HungryHalibut Thank you. Where the hell have they come from?

Both units were purchased from different dealerships. The 282 in 2018 and the Supercap in 2021.

Thanks @Richard.Dane

Clearly you picked them up from somewhere, or you wouldn’t be able to use the SC with the 282. They cost about Ā£200 new these days and there is a ready market on eBay.

Looking back through some old posts, you did used to have a Hicap DR. Perhaps the SNAIC5 that originally came with that Hicap remained when you changed to the Supercap (and bought an additional SNAIC5 in the process).

Still, as HH mentions, it’s easy to sell on your spare SNAICs.

Than you @HungryHalibut
I know for a fact that I didn’t purchase them. I’ve a sneaky feeling that my dealership may have thrown them in as a ā€˜Thank you’.

Ah! James, It’s all coming back to me now. As I just mentioned to @HungryHalibut, I think the dealer must have thrown ONE in as a ā€˜Thank you’. Which means that I sent the Hi-Cap off without it’s SNAIC. Whoops!

It happens. On the plus side, some extra pocket money to go towards your next upgrade…

What are you replacing the 282/SC with or are you just going to be using the Bartok directly into your 300 ?

Funnily enough James, I am! Very controversial I know, but to me it sounds as good.
My partner thought it sounded fractionally better. :+1: Mind you, she’s deaf as a post! :joy:

Funds from the 282/SC will help pay off the Bartók!

Pretty sure my ( pre owned, but via a naim dealer) SC came with burndy and snaic5?

It may well have done but it’s not standard. All that comes with the SC is a mains lead. When you buy a 252 - the natural partner for the SC - the 252 comes with the Burndy and Snaic5 to connect to the SC.

If it’s not adding value for you, why keep it just because the received wisdom says you should. I’m all for getting rid of as many boxes as possible. Next stop: swap the 300 and the Kudos for some active speakers!

@HungryHalibut You’ve been reading my mind!

It’s certainly worth thinking about. James came round a while ago and despite owning a Linn Klimax, 350s and some Kudos 606s, thought my little setup was pretty good. You can get a really good bang for the buck with a steaming preamp and active speakers; I’m still amazed how good my system is for Ā£7,500 all in, less than some pay for a single cable.

Not sure if James has considered the Kudos SIGAO DRIVE CROSSOVER, with his 606’s?

Blimey. That would need two more 350s as well as the crossover, and it can’t use balanced cabling. Active speakers would be so much simpler.
