For my home, I have a white indoor fibre cable going directly into a white box from which a (softer, more flexible yellow cable is used via green plastic plugs plug into a wifi router (NOKIA). This has 4 LAN ports of which one I’ve been connecting to another router down the passageway to the bedrooms, and one to the ND5 XS2. The ND5 XS2 seems to show all the correct lights, - Steady green indicator when the cable is plugged in and flashing purple when it is not plugged in. However, the ND5 XS2 cannot be located on the network in either case and the graphic which says “this might take a couple of minutes” just goes around in an infinite loop. The green LED at thee ethernet cable socket shows a successful connection but the amber/yellow led doesn’t light up i.e. no flow of info. here’s some photos:
I recall seeing some sort of device number at times, i.e. ND5 XS2 XXXX (4 digits), but haven’t seen that for a while. Also, the first few times it showed under Airplay which option I did not select n the iPad wifi settings page.
If you have two routers you should only have wifi working on one of them. You will probably find that the player is connected to one network (the Nokia) whereas the phone or tablet you are trying to use to control the Naim is on the other network, so they can’t see each other.
Back to basic fault finding. As HH suggests, you may have router problem. Disconnect the second router. Plug your player in to the main router temporarily. Can you now see and use the player normally? Go from there. If yes then figure out what is happening when the second router is reconnected. If no then further fault finding with the player settings.
I have tried after disconnecting the second router, physically, again. When the ethernet CAT 6 cable is connected I get the green LED at the ethernet socket of the ND5 XS2 and a continuous green on the indicator next the power button on the front fascia, when I disconnect the ethernet cable, the indictor gives a flashing magenta which I also believe should be correct behaviour. The problem is that the device does not get found by the App. Tried re-boots all around without luck. Tried via iPad and iPhone on different occasions.
Sounds as though you now need Naim techie help then. Do you have a dealer nearby ish that you can take the unit to and test it on their network. Also something to try. Is it possible to manually issue a fixed IP address on both the unit and your router?
Could it be some firewall issue on your router that is blocking traffic from the app to the ND5XS2? Can you go to this URL in a browser: http://ip_address/naim/index.fcgi
That should show the diagnostics page in the browser. You can probably get the IP address assigned to the ND5XS2 from the router configuration page.
I’d to call in my ISP’s network technician and finally got the ND5 XS2 going, full function. I think basically we did a factory reset to the router, and then reconfigured it. It’s sounding exceptionally better than even I, with my faith in NAIM, thought it would. I’d venure to say it even makes the Audiolab 6000CDT, that I was thinking of handing down sound nice enough for the first time ever. My thanks to all.

ps: what puzzled me for a while was that I had to enable the aux-2 input on the NAC 282 using the remote control in “Prog” mode, while leaving theRCA CD input enabled for my LP 12.
Yes I know it’s a pretty vague statement. I have an ND5 XS2 and think it’s fabulous. I have pondered elsewhere how far you could push the amplification before the source and speakers became the limiting factor. I was just Interested in the real world experience of someone who’d tried it. (Or was about to try it)).
Depends where you’re coming from - Sound Quality wise, I would say there are definite areas for improvement, but it is by far, well above any other streaming/ DAC device I have owned. As far as connectivity, ease of use, convenience of play, and that sort of thing goes - it’s been quite flawless after the initial (teething) issues that were the purpose of this thread. I have tried most of the modes of play available.
Now I’m not a streaming novice, in fact this represents the second gen for my streaming set up having previously used the Uniti 2 (which included CD) that decided to quit on me via an error code (28, I think it was), upon which I decided to upgrade to a Superuniti. Imho the Uniti2 sounded far nicer than the SU in my existing set up that consisted of Linn Kabers and subsequently Totem, Model 1 Signature speakers and a Vortexbox ‘Appliance’ from Small Green Computer in New Hampshire serving as a NAS. The SU was retired when I found it’s Pre-out just didn’t bring out the potential of an upgrade to a NAP 250DR, even for analogue sources - at various times Rega Planar 3, modded Lenco L78 a la Jean Nantais, and finally my beautiful, beautiful LP 12. The NAC 282 solved all issues arising from the shortcomings of the SU Pre-out.
Then followed a period of penance using various USB DACs and BlueTooth DACs and I even remember writing a review on Amazon about how ‘nice and sweet sounding’ a 3mm jack to RCA cable was which was to be used from my MacBook Pro Headphone Out to Aux of my NAC 282, no doubt the inbuilt DAC of the current MBPro is far superior to anything older, but thinking it’ll do by connecting it to a 282 is like ‘casting pearls before the swine’. Earlier models of the MBPro had a kind of hybrid 3.5mm/SPDIF Optical headphone jack, I kid you not.
Here in India, quality new hifi is a largely unavailable at prices of the UK, and traditional tariffs result in a > 2x markup in retail price, especially as one approaches the higher end, so every purchase, for me has a gestation period depending on when I am going to travel, preferably to a destination with 230V mains.
