Unconventional speaker designs

As far as I’m aware, no, they need to be well into the room for best/proper sound.

A cafe in my village (Forest Row) has a pair constantly playing a soundtrack. They do sound rather good

not all images are designs obviously
but these images are as that was their intent and purpose; to present unconventional speaker designs whether AI or otherwise

Is it a speaker at all?

No but then again, they also had carpet in the kitchen.

At the left of the turntable. Very probably a speaker.
He uses a Sota turntable, not very known. I could have bought one second hand many years ago.

It appears to be an Infinity Cascade speaker

MBL 126 trial a mixed bag so far. The treble and mid drivers are superb. Surely the best I’ve ever heard. I’d caution that I have age related high frequency loss, so their speed, clarity and brightness might not suit everyone, but it’s revelatory for me.

The not so good is that, perhaps unsurprisingly, there’s just not enough air getting shifted in the lower frequencies. My concerns about poor integration between the high frequency drivers and the conventional(ish) bass drivers were unfounded; they blend seamlessly, but the twin 5” drivers just can’t reach low enough.

So, then I tried running both the MBL’s and my Obelisks together. The MBL’s driven by a loaner MBL N51 integrated and the Ob’s on my 552\500.
This Sounds utterly amazing quite frankly !!

…but ain’t a long term solution of course…

My brother has a pair of those and a subwoofer is a must. Sounds fabulous though!

I love what you’ve done with your alcoves!

A subwoofer makes a lot of sense to me. Which one(s) does your brother use @crispyduck ?
The other option may be another home dem later when the dealer gets his hands (soon) on a pair of the 116’s which have much greater firepower in the bass.

Pretty sure it’s an REL but can’t remember the model

And still my favourite after all these years…

Thanks! The alcoves were about 15” deep, so crying out for a layer of celotex then record shelves. I’m very happy with the results.

That is a beautiful room

In a universe of boxes with two cones facing you, these deserve to be part of the furniture and to replace any other type of domestic entertainment (safe perhaps sex). I find them exceedingly beautiful.

Glad to find someone who shares our tastes. I too find them beautiful.
If i could have try them with Naim at that time, I could maybe have bought them.
