I really do believe in this having experienced it myself ![]()
I am not happy with the sound - just again an album which I can only listen to on a lower level as it’s too edgy on higher levels. I am not able to see if Naim was now only looking at functionality or also considers the sound better, while they refer to that they did listening tests….
Maybe they tested the new software with Lavender DIN and NACA5…
Nothing wrong with the lavender DIN, try doing an A/B test with your new cables. Whilst they will no doubt sound better, I think you’d be surprised by how good the lavender sounds. Especially if you’ve not listened to it for a long time.
Anyone getting issues with app not responding? Keeps failing not sure what I have done.
They use all Super Lumina cables at HQ in the demo room. When we made the visit to HQ there was quite a focus on how good Super Lumina cables are.
I would have thought they would be using the 500 system as well as the NC range.
I’ve done it a few times in the past. It’s OK at what it does and has its charm but it is narrow in its bandwidth not letting all information through. Just like NACA5. Super Lumina is much better.
Sorry - but it is the wrong way. The fw does not make any better (in my system). Going back to standard switch and cables is a huge step backwards.
I am not tuning anything until naim found a way to fix it!
I don’t have anything to remove no switches or fancy cables.
Could be this way… but I was not informed that there is a change in sound!
When I demo anything - I can always go back.
Here I was not even informed that there will be changes and going back…
The last fw change was also recognizable but was so small, that it is not to mention. This one is really big in difference.
I had these issues! But now no music - don’t know.
I’m not saying it will work but bypassing the switches and putting a standard cable in and then listening to your system wouldn’t take much to do.
Could be worth an experiment. Naim may be happy with the firmware. Note they will not be using switches and expensive cables to develop the sound.
Yes, I’m not sure how that would work. There has always been sound changes between different firmware. As with any software system, firmware is updated for new features, bug fixes etc, it’s inherent with streaming. I’m starting to think that streaming can be difficult to get right in a revealing system.
But there is no logic. In upgrade path switch and cables clearly brought more SQ.
The fw does not do this! It only sharpens. Making it more dull is bringing back the feeling of a more easy listening, but on which cost.
As said - I will do nothing to tweak a sound to make it less revealing.
And this is way more wrong than to be tweaked by cable or switch.
Geko had tested it.
I have done several fw updates before. It was always very minimal! This time it is huge! In my opinion this really went out of spec.
The logic would be to “reverse test”. Go back to standard set up (cables, switches, network), with latest firmware and assess the affect of changing the hardware set-up.
My system sounds great. I would say that it’s on the edge though - very live sounding, and making it more revealing could be too much. Okay, so, I don’t have a NAP500, or a second 555 PS, both of which would be more revealing.
The ND555 was designed with one PS. A second will push it further, which some like, and adding uber cables can push it over the edge. Naim can’t stop people going to the nth degree, but the results are out of their control.
So Naim has never claimed two will make it better, just that it works?
If so I guess software is also verified with one PS, not two. Priority is at least one if they must choose. Most users not being happy here seem to have ND555 with two ps. If I were in the same position I would put the most fresh 555PS on the ND and evaluate for a week or two. Starting with a factory reset with one ps only.
That’s what I would do as well. It’s sometimes hard as a member of the beta group to keep one’s mouth firmly shut but that’s what we must do. But Naim are fully aware of the issues and it’s a matter of being patient. Something some owners seem to struggle to do, and perhaps would rather throw their toys out of the pram. Saying that Naim must fix things RIGHT NOW because I’m IMPORTANT really isn’t helpful.
Another downgrade …
Sorry - why. I do not want to make it less revealing in order to make it less painful to listen.
I am away from the fiddle ![]()
