Firstly to get past base one Naim will have to acknowledge that although the update has improved elements of the sound there is something unpleasant about the HF presentation (and no it’s not my system or room that has created it as vinyl sounds off the charts good) I hope to see a happy ending here but if their line is we are completely happy with it then we might have to “suck it up”
All of you with this issue are you using almost the same front end meaning switches and Ethernet cables and power supplies to those? If you have an EE8 or other switch in the chain have you tried to remove it all and go with just a regular Ethernet without any switches or lan-enhancers or similar? What was the then outcome with the problems you are referring to such as glare (whatever that is) and loose bass?
Sorry if this has been addressed already but I haven’t read anything about that except that people have changed their Shunyata Sigma to Belden catsnakes or similar more standard like Ethernet cable from last switch to ND.
If I were you I’d revert back to just one Ethernet cable from wall to ND and have it like that for an extended time (a few days) to see what that brings to the table.
I don’t know about anyone else but I just have a basic Ethernet cable from a diy store and am not using a switch. So no I can’t remove anything.
Had the same problem - with my initial mail there was no ticket number. On second try there was one.
After I received a standard response mod of October I replied and got a new ticket number. I felt that with standard response the ticket was closed - which I dont know for sure.
Ok and you have problems with lose bass and hf glare after updated fw?
i am on wifi - no special kit all naim std cables
This! I’ve used Audirvāna for 12 years… I tried the Naim app last year and thought ‘no that’s not nearly as good’ so have stuck with Audirvāna. A gives you the option to tweak the sound. I use it to adjust the sound for my headphones. You could do this at least temporarily and roll off the HF sound? A lot cheaper to trial it than switch systems……
Hope it will not come to that - in this case … but we are not at this stage. Naim will bring a solution which is better than best!
Exactly, what is there to loose? And if people have already used the trial the monthly fee is still a lot cheaper than most other solutions. And if it is not to the liking then there is no obligation to keep using Audirvãna.
I actually have more bass but I think it’s less realistic (not sure how to put it it it’s like everything has been turned up high even stuff that shouldn’t), I do have the hifi glare I wince with some high frequencies at the moment.
I see. Thank you for sharing. It seems most people notice this change and some find it worse than before and some find it better than before. You have a comparatively simple system meaning it’s not as transparent as the 552 or Statement systems and you still hear this change meaning it seems it has nothing to do with transparency to actually hear a difference.
I don’t mean to say your system is simple. I hope no offense is taken😊
No offence I get what you mean. Also I’m not the only one using an nd5xs2 with issues so I’m hoping it’s some weird interaction that was unintentional and will be fixed but I don’t envy the people trying to figure out what issues are happening and fix it without effecting anyone else unintentionally.
The HF ‘glare’ is apparent on my NSC 222 / NC NAP250 too. Worse on some albums and less so on others. Not helped by my speakers which are a little bright already.
Overall though an improvement for me - more detail and space between musical elements - except for the excessive brightness, which I’d really like toned down somewhat.
Has anyone done a hard factory reset and had success with sound improvements?
I’m very reluctant to do a reset
David
Hi Dan, First again hope you will be still very very long with us. But share your sentiment, if they don’t fix it, I will need to donsomething…, live is too short. Even Richard’s response is in a way dissapointing…, it’s about numbers at apparently with our huge investments in Naim we don’t count for them anymore….
I wonder if Naim’s dealers are reporting issues, either with their demonstration setups or from their customers. Maybe a dealer’s setup does not get the intense prolonged listen that a user’s set up gets.
Maybe the golden ears at naim are getting old? 10k roll off.
My dealer has an issue with their dem 500 system, so they are aware of a problem and have been in contact with Naim directly.
