I reckon it will be a Christmas present, just before Christmas. They probably have the patch ready but then will need to take steps to implement it.
These things take time!

From my experience with product development one thing I learned was. NEVER release anything before holidays when your employees are off work and support is down. But Naim might not work like this…
Indeed - two of my clients are in their festive “change freeze” periods now, nothing but critical changes until January.
The previous firmware installs didn’t seem to cause any problems, so if the new one is only incremental change we might assume it gets released as soon as it passes QC.
In which case the new year then!
It has taken enough time. Would hate to have even over the holiday period a dysfunctional system….
Is it certain the patch is addressing the sound quality issues? Naim might do well with some expectation management here.

When I called regarding a drop out from Tidal I was informed pre-Christmas. However no promises.
It’s about time someone responsible from Naim came forward and told us when the new update is available to us. There are only losers with this secrecy!
They told me about 10 days ago that it would be before the end of November.
So now they say pre xmas?! They just gave themselves up to another 3 weeks! And even that can’t be relied on.
The high esteem that I once held Naim in was lost months ago. I used to view the brand as the pinnacle of hifi, a brand that I dreamt of owning from being a teenager in the 80’s. Now I just feel negative about it.
They would be seriously unwise to release anything before Christmas or new year.
Why?
Yes - expectations high on my side. Or not - only want the sound being back to the previous versions … not high.
But expecting the sound having some focus on.
You might be correct - with no support any small issue might be a total disaster.
I really appreciate that there will be a patch (soon). Naim should take time. But all of us kept in the dark if we can expect or we can’t … this is not my liking.
I really hope I can forgive that - when the patch is a winner it could be easier to do so
Are the FW updates mandatory (NC) or can we forego the new FW when it comes out? I’d rather delay for a bit and not risk messing up the current sound signature. At least until it’s in widespread circulation.
Its a free country.
The general rule is that you can choose not to install the update, but once you do you can’t go back.
Update policy does vary a good deal from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some push the update out to the streamer and you can’t not install it. OTOH some allow you to roll back to an earlier version.

Indeed, although I would not be surprised if there are not some licensing restrictions/stipulations from third parties on the ability to roll back… certainly if there are bug or vulnerability fixes.
If you look at the roll call for third parties in the product software it’s not insignificant, though perhaps there is scope for some code segmentation and modularisation in terms of updates, ie selective updates between the digital board components, the ARM microcontroller and network application module(StreamUnlimited)… or then again perhaps that would make no difference on the end result.
Not AFAIK. Don’t believed they are pushed out without a choice.
I think it would be fair to say that any products which can get firmware updates don’t always get unanimous praise for the actual updates for various reasons - could be Apple, Naim or any manufacturer.
When, when, when do we finally get a solution to our sound problems from Naim……, I done being patient and trusting it will be fixed…
If you are not in the beta group you won’t get the inside story, that they are not allowed to share with the plebes.
Naim won’t be admitting there is an issue to their customers, so the plebes have to “be patient” and suck it up.
