Unhappy with the new NAIM update

Funny you should say that. I have a very wealthy step-brother who lives there, but we aren’t in regular contact since my step-dad died 16 years ago.

Wealthy, but without an audio system, right?

I don’t know really. He has a nice yacht at his second home in St. Martin……

Agree, this has been my experience too. The 333 suffers from the same issues post upgrades and it is exciting to hear that we will get back to the organic sound of the previous firmware. Hopefully for the 333 as well eventually.

Thank you @Cohen1263 my Nova is very excited to think that it can start doing its job properly again (soon).
Patience has been tested for many but fingers crossed lessons have been learned all round.
There will be future FW updates so ‘hard lessons’ this time should be avoided in the future.
Happy to update to 3.11 when available but waiting patiently until then.

Are those real boat wakes or a sneaky smily face you added? I can’t tell when I zoom in! LOVE the picture.

You live there?

A separate thread for the irrelevant topics perhaps?

perhaps

Presumably Naim will have to row back on their assertion fw updates don’t affect sound. Richard seems confident they do so clearly not the full party whip at play.

What a polava

Isn’t that a kind of cake?

I presume the Stream Unlimited issue was the cause of the long delay of the Tidal Max integration .

I got the titanium update many months earlier for my Lindemann bridge II which also use SU. Naim use a modified version of an off the shelf board from SU as I understand it which I suppose means more specific tailored code is required. And if you go outside the normal path there is both opportunities and higher risks involved. This time I guess it became a risk they putting them in a stressful situation having to rely on SU software team more than they would have hoped. Guessing.

Meringue I think lol.

Unfortunately not, but frequently on holidays in that area.

i have long thought an issue with sound unlimited board was the most likely explanation for naim’s communication issues. their contract may well have clauses preventing them saying anything. but that does not excuse the false positives they came up with… nothing wrong … our best firmware ever… reconsider other aspects of your system. whether these are down to focal or naim is kind of irrelevant - it is the combination we are reliant on. someone somewhere needs to face up to their responsibility for this debacle tho i doubt we will ever know if this happens. meanwhile as a 222 owner who was thinking of upgrading to 333 before all this i woul really like to know what naim’s plans for nc are - obviously contacting support seems pointless

My understanding is Naim have a contract with Stream Unlimited. Stream Unlimited make the NP800 streaming boards for all Naim streamers. And they provide “off the shelf” software updates for internet radio and Tidal Max. So whenever there is a big change then Stream Unlimited need to make sure Naim comply and roll out the new service which is updated by Naim’s firmware.

These updates from Stream Unlimited have affected the sound signature of Naim streamers. In turn Naim have tried to mitigate this by changes in the firmware by tweaking it.

So whenever there is another big change in Internet provided services, new firmware will come out.

So this is going to be an ongoing issue that may affect sound quality. I am no expert in this field but this is my understanding of it.

For me today very much feels like the day after the day before as it were. There are certain things that I am struggling to get my head around.
How can anyone prefer 3.10.1 to 3.8.2 is one. They aren’t even close IMO. The way both mine and Naim’s ND’s responded in the same way to everything we did is another thing quashing certain theories regarding issues within
certain machines and also the way our machines have downloaded the FW. But after beating the 3.8.2 drum for so long now it was a huge relief to listen to 3.11. There is a path back to something close to what we had six months ago. Don’t be
surprised if there are some p…d off people saying why did we have to live with the 10 for six months? 3.11 really is much better. I’d rather look at it positively in that Naim have found a good solution to the challenges Dan wrote about.
