Unhappy with the new NAIM update

I run my television audio through my ND5XS2. I have noticed some ‘sizzle’ sounds, backed up the video and replayed the section and it wasn’t there. My mind may very likely be playing tricks on me. I need to investigate more closely. Based on your experience I wanted to ask if the sizzle occurs if you pause, ‘rewind’ and play the section again?

The sigma is shielded, and both ends connect.
Basically, the wire has an outer sheild along its lenght, this can pick up unwanted noise and then transfer it along that shield into the streamer/dac.
If you have a multimeter, you can easily see by trsting the metal ends of the wire

Taking switches (EE8 or both) out doesn’t benefit the sound in my system. It’s enigma for sure. It sounded great this afternoon so hopefully more of those sessions until Naim create a fix.

And now I should not use the sigma anymore because it is shielded? Why is the shield bad? It was not before.

I didn’t say don’t use it, but i would see if it gets rid of any problems.
dCS advise against using shielded cables as it can cause problems. I haven’t found that to be an issue with the omega i use or other before that. I also have the PhoenixNet that might help. Or i just dont have any nasty stuff around my ethernet cable to cause an issue?

But it’s worth trying if you have a badic unshielded cable

Same as here! Direct router contact had no effect.
I also had last weekend a perfect spot with nd555. But it was washed away in a bit.
I hoped to find a solution with direct line from router and with nd555. Could have lived with qobuz only for some time.

@Geko should hold it with both hands! Maybe he discovers the reason and gets the overall reward . Thanks to geko and all of you for doing constant research - naim has good helping hands here!

With nds it is really nice with all the textures and especially the immersion!
But these textures are some kind of rounded (which is utterly nice). Nd555 was more discrete here.
Nd555 with texture back is the perfect machine for me.

Taking out Sigma means taking out magic - I think you (as omega) know what I mean.
I have NDS connected and and sigma is performing again

I’m not doing any more experimenting Drago. Several of us have found different ways to mitigate the issue whilst we wait on Naim as they “burn the midnight oil” finding the root cause. I believe that they will prevail :crossed_fingers:

That is exactly what we should do and what naim should do!
I bow down

And the effect does sound like ‘run-in’ for SL cables - in fact I was (and in part still am) wondering if the FW itself would ‘run-in’ and alter over time in a positive way.

The SL speaker cable runs-in mostly in a week or two use unlike the SL Interconnects that take months.

I have found ways to work around the high frequency sibliance and shrill with cheaper but good ethernet cables.

However the unnatural sound on steroids still prevails.

I am not going to do endless tweak things as the effects are not changing the new sound signature of 3.10.1. I am making the best of it.

Who knows what Naim will do? We don’t know. I would imagine they are working on it. From what I hear on here this is not an easy fix.

They did the patch and that wasn’t right. Took several months and Naim were very happy with it. Now we await information as to what they are doing next.

Hi, only if it is the device in the system. Just trying to understand the reason for the apparent inconsistencies of experience with the firmware. I also have an issue.

Sorry - I don’t want to be rude! We are all trying to understand…:smirk:

I did not think you were rude. :grinning:

We lost our internet for about 6 hours yesterday, went through all the checks that sky broadband suggested regarding unplugging connections, powering down the router etc but nothing worked, later in the evening the internet came back on, everything worked fine.
So came to play some music today but on opening the app my streamer was not showing so I went through the add a new device setup got everything back up and running and we have had a marked improvement to how the system sounded before the loss of the internet.
It’s not perfect but considerably better than it has been, we can play at higher levels than before, it’s like a layer of back ground noise has been removed, I have no explanation for this just thought it worth a mention, sure somebody will explain why this has happened.

We had this before last year. Unplugging Ethernet cable had made some kind of „sound reset“.
This is all a miracle  - a riddle naim is about to solve…

What do you expect, headquarters to roll out the red carpet for you or what? You’ve been given clear instructions on how to proceed, follow them and stop whining like a grumpy old man :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
