I’m a bit flummoxed. After successfully ripping nearly 300 CDs on my new-to-me Uniti Core, I tried to rip a new one today and the Core just stuck on the metadata search screen. I tried a number of different CDs and all did the same. Recycling the power didn’t help, and neither did a hard reset or re-setting the music store.
I don’t know what else to do - otherwise it’s all functioning as it should. Is it likely to be a temporary glitch or does it sound more serious than that?
I assume you tried stopping and then restarting the Focal/Naim app (or rebooted your phone/tablet?) The firmware in the Core works with the app software and it’s not always possible for users to know where an obscure issue lives.
Also when you want to fully restart the UnitiCore, you have to remove the mains from the UnitiCore completely for say half a minute. You can’t do a full restart just using the front panel button on the Core.
Yes, I actually reinstalled the app, too. Definitely did proper power cycles and hard resets but nothing has helped. I just don’t have a clue what to do now/next.
On the phone now, but seems that it might be the CD mech. Dave, the support technician, is just checking whether they have the means to repair/replace it…
Update - well, they do have replacement drives for the Core, which is good news. I’ve just been asked to remove/reseat the internal SSD and if that doesn’t help I guess I’ll be dropping it off at Tom Tom.
No luck. Am awaiting a call back from Tom Tom now, but I guess I also need to speak to the eBay seller to determine what they want me to do as it came with a three month warranty.
Well, I have the eBay warranty (3 months). When I registered it with Naim they issued a 5-year/extended warranty certificate from the date I bought it too. Hopefully there won’t be any cost issues.
I think it’s only the first two years that is transferable to a new owner in UK. So unless it’s a very new unit and bearing in mind the UnitiCore was deleted about a year ago (?) it is unlikely still to be under warranty from Naim.
But having just read the post mine crossed with, it will depend what attitude Naim take to a second owner of a unit apparently not previously registered and of course whether the eBay seller was a Naim dealer.
Sounds positive, based on my, stress my, experience, definitely worth trying to get it fixed rather than returning it.
As it’s been shipped about a bit, I’d remove and reseat the drive tray, ensuring all three SSD mounting screws are tight and there’s no visible damage to the disk interface, both disk and Core. Unlikely, but worth a check.
Obviously power off and disconnect mains and cables before attempting the above checks - apologies for stating the obvious .
Yes, I’ve done all of that, including reseating the drive. I don’t think it’s been shipped around anyway, though - when the seller acquired it they collected a houseful of kit (mostly 500 series) from the original owner, and I collected it in person when I bought it. It’s also not had a problem until today.
In which case, are you sure it’s not a network (eg firewall) issue? I say this because if, as you previously stated, discs rip correctly but the metadata lookup fails, it would be explained by a local firewall, say in your internet router, blocking outgoing traffic from the Core……..?
You can always check this by temporarily, and briefly, disabling the firewall.
No, the seller wasn’t a Naim dealer. I’ve also confused the issue slightly as I bought the Core direct from their own company, rather than through eBay (I was offered a hefty price reduction to do so, on the basis that it would be their guarantee, not eBay’s).
I’m not at all concerend about that - I collected in person, and I know they recently sold a full Statement as well as a load of 500 series & other stuff; it’s all quite pucka, properly invoiced and with a warranty. Albeit perhaps not Naim’s.
I am not aware, but I haven’t looked to be honest. My memory says that you get a black screen if you go to the webpage associated with the network address though.
