First of all, a big compliment for the Focal & Naim app. I use Naim Uniti Core, among others, to archive my music collection, which brings me directly to the subject. My CD collection goes back to the 80s when the first compact discs became publicly available. Many of my CDs are not available on any streaming platform, so I can’t listen to them in the car or at parties. The next dilemma is also that the playlists created on various streaming platforms keep disappearing songs. In my investigation for a practical solution to make ripped CDs available offline, I couldn’t find anything. Therefore an idea or inspiration for the naim team, perhaps you see a possibility to integrate an offline option for playlists in your Focal & Naim app. This would create a unique selling point that would certainly please many music lovers. I would also be willing to pay for this feature to honor and support your work and extra effort. Best wishes from Salzburg
What exactly do you mean by “offline”? The Core, like any UPnP server, makes your stored music available over your local network, and that works whether or not it has an internet connection.
As for any further development of the Core, Naim never added any significant features during its lifetime. Now that it is discontinued I think it is safe to say that the chances of any further development is zero.
Sorry, I was a little unclear. I am referring to the Naim app. I’m talking about being able to listen your own ripped music on the move, outside the local network i.e. on holiday.
Roon will allow you to see your collection on the move, for a fee.
There is absolutely no way Naim would introduce this.
Roon plus roon arc has been mentioned.
Another solution is jriver media center, with jremote on an iPhone/ipad. You can set that up to serve over the internet. I used to sit in the Naim factory with my iPad playing files from my pc at home, either playing into the muso in the office, or headphones.
Given that Naim don’t make any portable music players I can’t see that they would be interested in developing a way to serve music files to them. Their app is there primarily to control Naim streamers, as well as the Core.
What you can do is put copies of your Naim rips onto other devices such as an iPhone or portable music player. Then you can listen to them wherever you are.
As mentioned above, Roon Arc gives your phone access to your locally stored music library, but there is a considerable additional cost in both hardware and software.
Alternatively VLC is an example of a free app which can be used to play your music from local or cloud storage.
I use a FiiO M7 music player for my car, one of their inexpensive models. It holds up to a 256 mini sd card which is what I have. I’ve transferred my favorites from my Uniti Core to the M7 and can shuffle play about 9000 wav ripped discs. In my case since I ripped the discs in wav I wasn’t getting artwork on the FiiO until I used the SongKong application on the mini sd card files. All in all I really enjoy using a music player.
Thanks for all the feedback. I will take your suggestions into consideration. What a pity the Core is discontinued. I am very satisfied with the Core. He is stable and does everything you can expect from a music server. And in combination with the control app a perfect solution for me.
@ChrisSU @quad57 I always thought / assumed that my rips and downloads on my core were pretty inflexible in terms of copying and using them through a separate portable media player.
Is there an easy way to do this? Do I browse and access the files on the core via my Microsoft surface laptop attached to my network, and simply copy them across onto an appropriate storage card?
Thanks in advance.
If you navigate to the Core music or downloads folder on a computer you can copy the files, just like any other digital file. Any Mac or PC can do this.
What you can’t do with the CD rips is edit them outside of the Naim app.
If you saved the CD rips as WAV you will probably be unable to view the metadata on a non-Naim interface, so you really want them saved to FLAC when you rip them.
Install plex and point it at your music library folder, then install plex amp on your phone. But in all honesty just put the music directly on your phone.
Does it matter where in the Core’s Downloads folder you copy music files…..?

If you rip(ed) your cd’s in wav on the Core, those that you choose to go on the players mini sd card can be run through a program like SongKong. That’s what I did, and now the player shows the artwork. If you rip in FLAC you should be good to go.
Thanks for your advice everyone
No. But to make things easy to play around with, conventionally you have a folder per album. This is more important if you are using Wav because you need somewhere to store folder.jpg which has the artwork for that album.
Also people might choose to have all folders with Beethoven albums in a folder called Beethoven or whatever, but actually that’s just so it’s easier to find something if you want to do something to it, like change its metadata.
Thanks David,

Here’s another option, I’ve not tried it myself but am quite interested.
Take a look BubbleUPnP for your andriod or apple phone and install Bubble server on a NAS or home pc connected to your network. Set correctly you will be able to stream from any music on your network directly to your phone.
Get synolgy nas. I can listen to my ripped cds over 5g or wifi via my phone or tablet.
@davidhendon Hello David. I didn’t really want to start a new thread but if you get time can you advise me. I have been ripping my cd collection in WAV to the Core SSD. I also have my collection backed up on an external SSD. Can I transfer all my music to a MacBook Pro iTunes which I am considering buying.
Hello! You can do that by copying the files in the Music Store of your Core. But and it’s a big but, you will find it’s very difficult to make sense of them because Naim uses a special proprietary way of saving metadata in Wav.
Really you need either to rip the CDs all over again in FLAC or you could convert the files using software. I haven’t ever done it myself, but there is a version of SongKong for Melco that can do the conversion. I am sure someone here can explain how to do it. Or you could search in the forum and I can see immediately from google that there are forum discussions of that software.
