Uniti Core Storage question?

When installing new internal storage in a Uniti Core, hdd or ssd, how is the drive divided between the ripping folder and the downloads folder - 25:75, 50:50, etc., or can the user decide at setup time?

Any help appreciated.

It’s automatic, so you have no choice. But these are just folders in one volume so each folder can take as much as it needs until the drive is full. There isn’t an issue that you might run out of say download space while having lots of ripping space left. That isn’t how it works.

Thanks David, just what I needed to know. :+1:

Still can quite decide between Zen Mini III and Core though……?

Please take in account that in the Core you put whatever disk you want and choose a “pro” version which have up to 5 years warranty.
Innuos, it’s factory installed with just 2 years and in case of issue, the unit must return to Portugal…

Good point, well made :+1:.

One more (stupid) question……

Will the Core run with no internal or external (usb) storage, simply pointed at a NAS share?

Thanks,

ATB, J

Yes.

But if you want it to rip, you have to tell it where to save the rips. Thus is called a Music Store. It can be an internal SSD or HDD but it can also be a USB disc or a NAS location.

Thx :+1:.

Yes that’s how we run ours.

Never had any internal storage in it, rips straight to NAS where we can use MusicBrainz to tag.

Is it possible to import music (FLAC) files from a NAS to the Core’s downloads folder?

Thanks again,

If you have a DD in the Core and have “mapped” the download folder in the file explorer, yes, there’s no problem transferring music…

I was rather hoping to be able to copy directly to the Core from the NAS rather than through the PC or Mac……

ATB, J

I have never tried it. I think your problem would be how to tell the Core what exactly you wanted copied. Really you should be using a PC or Mac to do that and not trying to just use a NAS.

Oh well, looks like an overnight copy then.

Was hoping there was an equivalent to Zen’s Auto Import function :innocent:.

Thanks,

You can buy also a Buffalo drive and store all in your Nas.

As you already have music on a NAS, what are you hoping to gain from adding a Core or indeed a Zen? All you’ll get is less flexibility and a depleted bank account.

And? :innocent:

Or do what I’ve been doing since I got my Core (and with the UnitiServe before it), just add your NAS music volume as a share on the Core.

The Core software seamlessly merges the different album lists so it’s not apparent whether it’s on local or NAS storage
