Uniti Star Display Disappears after Firmware Upgrade

‘‘Tis indeed mysterious- I switched back to bt Wi-fi Saturday and yesterday it was locked. My dealer had a chat with naim Friday and thought it’s worth investigating the remote possibly jamming as it used Wi-fi to talk to the nova. As I said I changed the remote settings to turn off the movement sensor as it was too sensitive, so it’s possible the remote is transmitting and jamming my bt hub but doesn’t jam the old belkin one. So worth taking batteries out and see if bt hub / nova still gets locked.

Amendment to the above… the remote is direct control via zigbee (whatever that is!) not Wi-fi

Yes, but I believe Zigbee uses 2.4GHz as does Wi-fi so there is the possibility for interference.

USB3 hubs are a common source of interference for 2.4GHz wireless devices - any of those nearby ?

Hmm interesting! No usb3 hubs but maybe worth setting my Wi-fi to run on 5ghz?

Have a look at your router settings and see if you can put a wifi exclusion on the Nova using its mac address.
Don’t know if you can do that with your router but I can with mine.
But … if you are not using wifi with the Nova, why would this be an issue.
No idea if it will make a difference as I’m not switching to 3.2 until Naim post a fix.
I have emailed them again, no response yet.

You should be using 5Ghz for wireless if possible as 2.4 is prone to more interference than 5ghz. Are you using auto channels? If so turn this off and select a channel that does not have as many other competing access points fighting for airtime. You can do this by using you phone and wifi analyzer app. You should only use 1, 6 or 12 for 2.4ghz as those are the none overlapping ones.

I very much doubt the remote has anything to do with it, I have Philips hue around my house that uses zigbee and it does not cause any issues. You can select the channel to use though so it does not overlapp with your wifi. Shame Naim do not advertise which channel the remote operates on.

Ok well the remote is a red herring as no batteries in it all day and just turned the nova from front panel and it’s licked on home screen.

My display has frozen again after almost a week, came home this evening and switched on from standby via the app and there she was! Weird thing is as I write this it’s slowly unfreezing, initially the remote dident work but now it does and it seems to have cleared. I switched off the display off option in settings but it’s still going off regardless. I do suspect there’s some buggy code in there related to the new screen option and I reckon this won’t go away until addressed in a new fw edition, in the meantime I’m leaving screen off option alone to see it reoccurs.

Good plan.:+1:

Forget about this remote setting motion detection. Tried both already. No matter on or off, the display / remote freeze still occurring. Naim fix this !!!

Well no difference with screen off option left set to on, frozen again this morning

Grrrrr!

The only thing that constantly gives no lock up for me is turning off Wi-fi on my bt hub and connecting an old belkin one for Wi-fi . If anyone has an old router lying around it’s worth a try?

Did you try what I wrote in #145?

I’ve been liaising with support on this, they have just confirmed that new firmware is currently undergoing beta testing, so it seems they’re on the case

I dont suppose they gave you any idea what the problem was.

correct!

Oh well, didnt expect them to really. It was a big ask but it would be nice to know if any of our theories were right.
Maybe @Richard.Dane is in a position to comment.

I can’t do that on my router sadly but the split router works fine so will leave until a patch is released

Ray, I just know that Naim are working on a fix for those who are affected. I’d imagine they will update us when a solution is successfully tested and ready.
