Hi,
I have a Technics MKII that I would like to connect to my Naim Uniti2. Is a Naim Stageline a good option for a phono preamp? I can’t afford a much more expensive solution.
Many thanks in advance,
Eduardo

Welcome Eduardo.
I assume you mean the Technics SL-1200 Mk2?
A stageline will work just great with your Naim Uniti 2, and the powered AUX2 input means you already have a power supply onboard, so it makes a lot of sense. What cartridge are you using on the Technics?
Thank you Richard! I’m just starting into this audiophile world. My goal is to have a better vinyl player and stylus in the future. For the moment: 1200 MK2 with an Ortofon 2M Red.
OK great. You’ll need a Stageline N.
Thank you! I suppose that I would need a Superline preamp if I were to buy an MC cartridge due to the lower output voltage, right?
No need for a Superline. There are MC versions of the Stageline (S, K, and E).
There’s room for improvement.
Your deck is fine but that cartridge doesn’t get much worse.
A new Blue stylus or better yet a Bronze cartridge if you wish to stay in Ortofon land - they have their new Concorde editions too.
One of the best economy cartridge in my opinion are, Audio Technica VM95C or Sumiko Pearl, the latter is rather warm and a fine match for a MKII 1200.
Sumiko Amethyst is better but a lot more expensive.
Other options are RigB LNR for fixed headshell.
Make sure to settle on MM or MC edition before buying a Stageline, as its not switchable.
You likely need a Snaic cable to connect to your Uniti.
The Stageline came with a SNAIC5 when it was new. If buying second-hand, bear that in mind as it can make a difference to what you should pay.
Just for what it is worth, I recently added a 2nd hand Stageline N (from 2009) to my setup and I am super happy with it.
