UnitiQute 2

Hi everyone,
i have a ndx2 in my livingroom with my main hifi setup. in the kitchen i have a muso qb2 and now i am thinking about finding another streaming device „all in one“ to power two neat iota in the dining room. i need to find a preowned device on a budget for that and my question is: would you still go for a UnitiQute 2, that is about 10 years old ?
does it work in a multi room system together with the two other streaming devices ?
thank you for your thoughts and have a nice weekend!

I had a Qute 2 with Iotas and you really need to turn it up to bring the speakers to life. Multiroom works but there are limitations on how they play High Res. You’d need to ensure that the screen has been replaced. If it were me I’d sell the Iotas, forget the Qute, and get another Qb2, or a full sized Mu-so 2 if you have the space for it.

thank you for the swift advice and suggestion !
thats for sure also an option.

out of curiosity,
why does the screen needs to be replaced?

is there any other naim multiroom compatible device that could work with at a seperate amp
and that is available on a budget below 1k ?

thank you !!

The screens die after a while, making setup tricky. You can get a new one fitted for about £150 but it’s something to bear in mind. Why not put the Qb2 in the dining room and see how it works for you.

I don’t recall the multiroom issues exactly, but it’s around making sure you choose the right master unit if you are doing high res. I think you can stream high res from the NDX2 to the Qute but not vice versa. It’s a bit of a nuisance anyway.

got it ! thank you !!
and yes, will check first how qb sounds at the table !
multiroom with ndx2 and qb2 does work fine …
thanks agai an have a nice weekend!

I would wait a while, until the new firmware update for the legacy units comes through.
I think @HungryHalibut talks a lot of sense. I have several Unitiqutes and I am wondering how much more life there is in them. My setup, with the Qutes hidden away and powering in ceiling speakers, means the Muso option would not work for me. I’m waiting for the firmware update before I consider replacing the Qutes. They have done excellent service for over 10 years.

The Qutes work well for me in a multiroom environment, although I use Roon to achieve this rather than the Naim facility.

It’s actually why I’m keeping my Qute @Camphuw - it’s going to be powering a second pair of speakers in AV bypass from my SU, and does a great job at the moment on my computer audio in my study. (Did you ever post a photo of your Qutes in the rack?)

Although I think if you don’t already have it then what @HungryHalibut says makes sense - my partner loves the muso in the kitchen.

Screen - first - regardless of whether they are set to be off - they do fade. Mine is 11 years old and it is packed up, to pay a visit to hq for a screen replacement - fixed price - ask a dealer.

Even if a s/h unit has had a screen replaced, it needs to have been done very recently, else it may have been left on, which diminishes its life. Particularly w/o a service, think it needs v careful consideration as to whether it’s a bargain.

From a dealer with a warranty, an Atom can be sourced at a good price, which then likely won’t need any attention for ten plus years. If you have speakers, rather than write off most of their cost by selling, likely better choice than Muso2, better vfm with an Atom. Unfortunately it is somewhat more, but without very clear knowledge of its past life, it wouldn’t perhaps be the bargain. If buying a UQ2, a very recent service + screen an+d warranty are almost essential. Why? Just check the fixed price service / repair for UQ2 and you could pay out the purchase cost again.

A UQ2 is fine with m-room - just remember the client (say your NDX2) can stream HiRes, but any streamer acting as client will only receive via intranet, a lower level - that applies to any client.
Separately UQ2 can’t play the highest res, so if you are using Tidal then only the second gen streamers can do this. Finally if you subscribe to Qobuz, then only Atom can do this. The workaround is for UQ2 to always be multiroom client to receive Qobuz.

I must dust the rack down first!

super, these are all very useful imsights and thank you for your frequent comments and information!
perfect.
will check with my dealer and on the wen for an atom, or another muso and take it from there.
my most lived putcome would be to make the iotas work in the mix, cause they are really nice and when i sell them i‘ll loose on budget, i guess.
thank you all agian and best for a lovely weekend

Personally as you have the Iotas, I would go for a pre-loved Atom. I think it would be a far better solution than any muso/Qb.

Agreed. I have and enjoy Atom with Iotas in my office. And at moderate volumes, too.
